There are 3 autocross events next weekend: July 23rd - SCCA Novice School at Turner Field July 24th - SCCA Points Event at Turner Field July 24th - BMWCCA event at Gwinnett Fairgrounds Mere and I am going to attend the Novice school on saturday and the BMWCCA event on sunday. I like the bmw events, as they are less crowded, and less serious. It should also be much less crowded than usual due to the SCCA points event. It would be really nice to get more rexs representing at these events! There are 23/40 spots available for the SCCA Novice day. This really is a great event, where you can get 20 runs with an instructor on the course + 10 or more additional fun runs at the end of the day if time allows. It really helps having an experienced instructor in the car with you. The cost is $50, and this includes lunch. Signup is here: http://www.joesvideos.com/scca_reg/view_event.py?id=44 Signup for BMWCCA event is here: http://www.peachtreebmwcca.org/ptAX_index.asp (starts tomorrow, the 18th, for non-BMWCCA members, $35) Also, if you just want to show up to watch these events, you are allowed to ride along with people driving in the events. I have no problem letting people ride with me at the AutoX events, and Mere doesn't mind either. It is certainly more enjoyable than just watching from the side. Feel free to ask me for a ride if you show up. They usually have spare helmets available. -- Brian
what are the times of the sunday event...i don't get out of work till like 4pm.....probably too late by then huh?
SCCA Auto X usually runs from about 8 AM to 6 PM or later depending on how behind schdule they get. Milo and I are the first Run Group in the afternoon, so we should be running around 12:30 or so, but most likely we won't start until around 1.
I think i might do the novice thing on sat and then the SCCA event on sunday..still considering though. Edit: Hey i have a question actually. In reading the classification for the scca event, i think i am in F Street Prepared but might try to slip into STU still. What do ya think? Legacy GT 2.5 with full turbo back w/HFC, catless uppipe, Ecutek, slightly modified boost, front and rear sways, and fuzzy dice.
m-chan, I' dbe glad to. Look for me. I'll have the Subaru Hat. What is your real name so I can ask for you? Patrick
Patrick, It's meredith, but everyone calls me mere. I have the crystal grey metallic STi with the pink badge. Hope to see you there!
I'm a little confused here. Why would they have these the same weekend that they run a regional at Road Atlanta? I understand they are two different type events but it seems like they would schedule them on different weekends.
Still 16 spots left for the SCCA Novice school on saturday: http://www.joesvideos.com/scca_reg/view_event.py?id=44 It is a great way to learn/improve your autocross skills with an instructor. -- Brian
OK, I just signed up for the Novice School. Looking forward to a nice day of running and will get me pumped for the Points Event Sunday.
There are still 13 spots left for the Novice day, and registration closes at 10am today. http://www.joesvideos.com/scca_reg/view_event.py?id=44 -- Brian
Sounds good See you tomorrow. It looks like registration is open again for the Novice school: http://www.joesvideos.com/scca_reg/view_event.py?id=44 There are still 10 spots left. -- Brian
Wow that was a fun school. Thanks again Patrick for the advice! Jason, you had some awesome times! BTW Did I end up hitting the most cones?
glad u guys had fun.... a bad hang over today slowed down my homework progress... i will try my best to make it to the event tomorrow
Had a lot of fun today. Mere is really getting better in the sti, and I barely beat her today in my s2k. For the BMWCCA event, each run group had 6 runs. On the 5th run, Mere beat me by 0.1 seconds. On the 6th run, I beat her previous run by 0.1 seconds, which was her best run of the day, and mine too. It was quite fun. We have a nice competition going Next scca event is a points event on August 7th, and the bmacca event is on August 14th. Hope to see more of you guys out there. We are going to do both of these events -- Brian
yea i enjoyed riding with you guys today brian, drifting in the s2k was a blast. Also enjoyed taking out the final gate meredith haha jk....you guys both impressed me with your driving. -Brian
Hey guys, good to meet you all. It turns out my front swaybar endlink broke on Sat. that explains why she was such an oversteering beast. I fixed it for Sunday and took second in STX. Milo, Jason: how did you guys do?
i sucked it up big time... and probably will until i buy better tires... i used my crappy no name street tires and the car was a slider... will took some pics... hopefully he'll post them up soon as for times, i believe jason's best was a 57.5x and mine was a 58.3x
Ahhhh, can't wait till next year, which, at this point, looks like the soonest I will be able to make it to an autocross again. Wow, Jason is really stepping it up! I am gonna have to ask HIM for advice by the time I can get back into it. Good on ya Jason!
I didn't step up shit. I was actually kinda pissed, I was having some car problems that day. I was only able to beat Milo becuase he was running street tires. If he had the R-compounds, he would have killed me. But at least I think I know what my problem was. I was extremely low on gas, and I think when I was pulling some hard G's on a couple of turns, the gas was being pushed to the sides and not being sucked to the engine. My car keep bogging and damn near stalling around the first big turn, and then it did it around a turn later during my last run, definitely caused me a good second on the first 3 runs, and probably 2 seconds on the last which is where I got the 57.xxx.
