I borrowed a work buddy's laptop with TARI sw & OBDII cable and did a few logs for the hell of it this afternoon. I've been curious about peak boost on my car (a completely stock 06 STI, with only 1100 miles on it now). It surprised me that on a hot day like this we logged as high as 15 - 15.5 PSI. Don't stock STI's max out @ 14.5? Is this normal on the 06, or is my car a freak?
When I was doing my tune with SS we actually saw 18.1 PSI on one of our pulls but that wasn't the norm by any means. There are so many things that can affect boost and I don't want to speculate so I'd say it's normal if not just a hair above average. If you consistantly get that extra tidbit. I think what most people will tell you is that all cars are different. Some STi's probably only make 260 WHP while others can hit 285 right out of the box.
18.1 PSI on the stock EM? Yow. That seems a little scary. I didn't realize any STI's made 260 WHP stock. I thought they were down in the 230 range or sumptin.
yeah, they are. Mine was at 240whp after the exhaust, before reflash, so we estimate the stock whp was around 230 something...And it took a reflash to bring the boost past 15psi
I can't find the article online for the life of me, but one of the popular tuner mags did an exhaust test to show what exhaust does what and of course they did baseline pulls. And they were getting averages of 260 to 280 WHP on an STi with only an intake. One of the exhaust actually helped make over 300 WHP but I can't remember which one.
cars vary and dynos vary... on SOGs pack, STis average about 255 whp/wtq stock... mine would peak a hair over 15 when it was stock... when i installed the exhaust and intercooler it would hit boost cut (somewhere around 18psi i think) before i had it tuned
In 6 mos or so, I may swap out the dp for either Helix or Cobb catted (not sure which is better). Probably not a full TB, though. Changing the DP on my LGT alone, no EM, made a significant performance difference. But if you were hitting boost cut w/out a tune on your STI, then it sounds like I will have to get AP or Ecutek. Interesting....
luckily it only happened the morning when i was driving down to SOG for a tune... and it happened at WOT in 4th... dont remember the temperature
http://www.cars101.com/subaru/impreza/wrxsti2004.html Use this as a reference guide for stuff like that. Nothing with the boost is ever that exact. There are a lot of variables that can change on a daily basis.
Um... I don't have an Sti so please correct me if I'm wrong, but the math just doesn't add up to me. With 260-280whp that is either an INSANELY small loss (only 7-13% loss at the wheels) or a gain of 35-50 whp with an intake (assuming a nice 20% loss)! Most WRXs have maybe 20% drivetrain loss at best. So a stock Sti should have between 230-240whp (which is accurate according to what I've read). just my .02 :coolugh:
