Okay so I got my BOV in today and installed it. Its a TYPE RS and bolted to the intercooler in place of the stock bov. When I ran the car it bogged and I noticed my boost was almost cut in half. A couple of times the car shut off on me. I then swapped the factory bov back in. I know that the problem is coming because the Type rs does not have a recirculation valve and so I have an intake hose that needs to be plugged or moved somewhere. What do I need to plug it with in order to get my car running supurbly again with full boost? Also I am considering going front mount and therefore not needing the type rs but rather go with a HKS Supersequential already mounted on an intercooler pipe. Should I just go with that set up rather than fool with my current recirculation problem?
Haha, so you're asking if you should buy a frontmount instead of having to plug a hole? Sorry, no help here, just had to ask. Edit: I don't know anything about your setup, but a front mount isn't really a good idea unless you're also running a bigger turbo.
honestly, the front mount will not help at all, especially if you're planning on running a stock turbo. If you're going to upgrade to an 18G or bigger then put one in. You'd be best served putting the stock BPV back on.
Most aftermarket BOV's come with a plug so that you can cover the hole, if yours didn't I would talk to the vendor you bought it from. A BOV is only beneficial when you run a front mount or over some rediculous amount of boost, and the stock BPV can handle a lot of boost. The only affect that a BOV really has is that it sounds cool, but that's it. I wouldn't spent extra money just to get your BOV to sound right, but if you really want to run a BOV keep your Top Mount stock IC and spend a little extra on the BOV so you get one that is durable and high quality, and make sure you buy it from a knowledgeable vendor so that they can tell you how to install it without having any problems. Thanks. I wasn't gonna buy a front mount just because of the BOV! lol I just think it looks nicer and thought it may help out. And as far as BOV's go Im just looking to change the sound. Im keeping my turbo stock for awhile (still under warranty) and wont be running rediculous amounts of boost because Im still under warranty. Thanks for the input!
Well just a warning, the bov may void the warranty at least in relation to your turbo. Then again, you can just take it off and replace it with your stock bpv if you ever have any problems. Unless of course you take it to SOG, because they now know that you have a bov
yeah if you bought a BOV with an install kit for a WRX then it should have had a plug for the factory recirculation hose. that is exactly why it was bogging down. the car was getting a bunch of extra air after the MAF so it didn't know what to do with it.
