I went on a flying trip to Alaska and got back a couple days ago. There were 13 airplanes in total and we flew in formation...for the most part. We met on June 23rd in Olympia, Washington. From there we flew into Abbottsford, BC and Quesnel, BC. After leaving Canada we made it into Alaska. We flew all over Alaska staying a few days at a time in different cities. We hopped on the Alaskan Railroad to a boat that took us to the Glaciers. We flew our airplanes 100 feet above the Glaciers, we flew along the pipeline and even landed on the Alaska Highway. We saw a lot of wildlife...moose, bear, bald eagles, sea otters and whales. I took my Nikon SLR and shot about 3,000 pictures. It will take a while to go through all the pictures but here are some unedited photos from the trip. It was an awesome trip! the last one is rock star. is that sediment from the run-off? i can't imagine just how much fun and freedom you felt. i'm jealous
Yup...that's the glacial silt and the different shades of water is the Salt and Fresh water mixing together. I felt quite untouchable while flying up there but at the same time I felt so insignificant. Everything there is on such a large scale...there are huge amounts of tree's, water and massive glaciers. I was also amazed how green it was and the forest areas are soooooo dense. It was truly a once in a life time trip. Just amazing! Rudi
I was contemplating a d80, but am leaning toward the Canon 40d. Still the shots are great, nice composition!
40d is a great camera also. I use Canon when I do graduation photography. Honestly, people debate so much between Canon and Nikon...truth be told, either way you will get great pictures. I love my D80 but I also like shooting with Canon. My next camera will probably be the new D700 though...it's the baby D3. That will not be for quite some time though. Rudi
i too have both. they both have their plus side, just not in the same departments. funny how that works out isn't it?
Thanks...yes I'm a pilot. I was invited on this trip by a friend of mine that found the information online. The trip was hosted by a guy in Olympia, Washington that takes two groups a year, one in June and one in July. There were 13 airplanes and most of the time we were flying in formation, other times the idiotic pilots that didn't know how to maintain speed where passing people or falling behind so eventually we split into two groups of airplanes which seemed to work out better. We had an amazing time...I've never done flying like this before and from now on when I fly everything else will pale in comparison to what we did on this trip. In some instances we flew as close as 40 feet from each others wing tip but that's only after we broke up into smaller groups. I'm still going through all my pictures but when I'm done I'll post a link to where all of them can be found. Rudi
Thanks. I did have a great time. I think everyone at some point has to make a point to visit Alaska...in the Summer of course. Rudi
