got my first ticket last night headed to one of my good friends bachelor parties. I got less than a mile a way and got hit with the good ol laser. He clocked me at 56 in a 35. Was actually a very nice cop and i wasnt mad because of how he handled everything. He dropped me as well down to 51 in a 35 so its not as bad. My first speeding ticket so hopefully it wont up the insurance to much. Still sux though.

    sorry to hear that B
Do you have a radar/laser detector ? would it have helped ?
laser is instant but sometimes he may have shot the laser at a car or two before you and you may have picked up the signal

sorry to hear brian...at least he was nice.

  6. Sorry to hear about your ticket, but I'm glad you had a positive encounter. :)

Prolly not..... laser is not only instant but also very focused...... unless you're several thousand feet away the beam is not gonna spread out enough for a laser detector in an adjacent vehicle to pick it up. Radar detectors are useful sometimes, laser detectors aren't much good at all...... when it goes off it's just telling you the cop already tagged you and you're screwed. It's a security blanket.....

bigb sorry to here about the ticket.

what about a laser jammer. from what i understand they are legal and let you know when you are being tagged.

blueline, what is your opinion on these? i don't condone speeding, but i know there are times that i'm not paying close attention to my speed and would like some protection to avoid a costly ticket.

Don't think the jammers are legal... could be wrong...

laser jammers are legal in most states. they are regulated by the FDA.

    RADAR jammers are NOT legal.

laser jammers and radar jammers are illegal in the states of Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois and Washington DC.

I can attest to teh functionality of laser detectors, or should I say, lack there of. I have an Escort 8500 x50 and it tells me when a cop is usinng laser, usually right before I can actually see the cop shooting me. Certainly don't get enough of a heads up to do anything about it. Luckily, I haven't ever been going fast enough for them to bother with me...

The night I got my car, my cousin and I were driving it back from the Macon area and he was driving. We had the radar detector plugged in and there were two cops clocking people on the side of the freeway. We got clocked going 89 in a 55 and the radar detector didn't make a single sound.

thanks guys, yea im not happy about it but life goes on hehe......

I have been thinking about getting a radar/laser detector but as stated before its an instant thing and by the time its detected its to late. I have made it this long though, so i think ill be alright without one. Just gonna pay her off and hope my insurance does not go up.

i've actually had on two seperate occaisions while following a vehicle while over the speed limit have the laser detector go off and be able to slow down. Unfortunately, the officer picked my car to pull over instead of the minivan, go figure. But hey, you might luck out with the detector. Lasers are a bit harder to hit in this state because we dont have front license plates and that is usually the aiming point because lasers dont work on glass.
