As most of you know I have the H6 for the STI that I was planning on running One Lap with. The question of the day is which interest you more 1) A highly complicated H6 build with lots of custom fabrication by the BG crew (IE...Drift car quality) 2) A basically stock STI motor making about 500whp, maybe cams etc... 3) A Fully built 2.5 4) A Fully built 2.4 liter, with nitrous etc.... The suspension setup will basically stay the same. The H6 will be developed, however I'm afraid that we don't have time to develop it the way I want. I don't want to go to One Lap with an untested motor. If I go with an EJ257 I'm not worried about longevity at all and honestly the 2.4 doesn't bother me either. This year I want to do what interest the most people. I want to develop parts that are going to benefit the Atlanta Community. Dan said something about project Yin and Yang right before he left for Vegas. Maybe Yin and Yang is a Black STI and a White STI....Maybe I have said to much.... So Atlanta sound off, let me know what you would like to see. Matt
My personal thoughts: you did SO WELL last year, your FIRST TIME OUT, with a very MINIMAL amount of power compared to others. You could have made MORE power, and we know the motor could have still been running if it wasnt for a small issue. While id love to see the H6, i dont think its time for that . If your serious about making one lap this year, id go with a EJ257 with rods an pistons, make 550 (like your brother will) and run the piss out of it. itll be simple, itll be back on the road in no time, and youll get to drive it again and get behind the wheel and push it and get back in the saddle (like i know you want to do) If your going to for go OLOA this year, then do the H6 for 2009 but i know you want to make this years race and place well. IMO right now is the time to be selfish. Youve done alot for the Subaru community already. Look at your car, your racing from last year, your brothers car, etc. I woudlnt over extend yourself by trying to do something big for the community when in reality its not really going to help YOU. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander and right now, the best thing IMO is to get you back on the road. ill talk to you more about it tomrrow cause i have some thoughts id rather not share with the rest of wrxatlanta.............yet.......:ninja: -MIKE
I think a fully built 2.5 that can rev to 8k would be pretty sweet. The broader power band is welcomed on any setups, so that would be the most reliable option in my eyes. I would do that if time is tight. I'm sure you don't want to run into problems with the H6 while developing and be not able to finish before OLOA starts or worse yet running into other issues during the event.
Yeah I say built block for time attack. The h6 would be cooler, more practical (for your purposes anyways) in another car. Maybe find an 02+ rs really cheap somewhere to drop it in and build it for fabrication experimentation etc.
I don't think many (or anyone?) would be able to follow you with an H6 build. Multiple fuel tanks is a great idea I'd like to see proven. And I'd like to see a 9k rpm 257 that could hold up to OLOA.
Maybe I'll put the H6 into the GC and use that to develop the platrorm. Then we can do an EJ257 in the STI for One Lap this year. Once we feel like the H6 is ready to run we can switch the motors. Matt
I don't keep track of other forums, but do you know anyone who has done any racing with a turbo H6 STi? When I was in Texas, I got to know this guy with a very nicely built STi (huge race rubber, wide body, GT35R, built motor, full suspension build, etc.). He did a LOT of autocross (in TX you can supposedly get over 100mph at an autocross), but I am sure his car would do real good at a road course. I mention him because he had a turbo H6 swap (GT35R) in his car that he ended up pulling out and swapping the 2.5 back in. There were a lot of things he didn't like about the H6. IIRC, one thing he mentioned was that it further upset the weight balance of the car because of the heavier motor. If you are interested in talking to him about his experience, I'll try to get you two connected.
I would love to talk to him about it, I haven't found anyone else other than Perrin that has done it.
Cool, I'll shoot him an email. He doesn't work on his own car. He just races it. So you probably won't get any information about issues with the build. But he should be able to tell you a lot about the driving experience, which is probably more valuable to you as a driver.
Cool. I just called him and he said he'd be happy to talk to you. I have PM'd his contact info to you.
