recently had the 60k service performed on the WRX wagon and SoG told me the battery was dying. so today i went and bought a new battery from Autozone. then installed the new battery. now i either get a lot of clicking or it hardly turns over. also when i attempt to start the car, all the lights dim heavily. i have no idea whats going on or how to go about fixing whatever problem this is. anybody have any clue??????????????????????????? to make matters a little bit worse the wagon is blocking my GC, and the GC is facing the wrong way to jump the wagon.
so i should clean the terminals and give it a good charge? dumb question: best way to charge the battery is?
jump the car and drive around for a while with all electrics turned off... that should do u good unless the alternator is dead... u might also wanna check the fluid levels in the battery... there should be a high and low mark i believe if ur connectors dont have a bluish green powdery deposit on them (copper sulphate) then your connections should be ok
Honestly, it sounds like you didn't tighten the terminals enough. I'm sure you've already checked that though, so yeah, I'd play with cleaning them to make sure they're getting a good connection. -Laters! -Chris!
You could also go buy a batter charger, rather than jump it... At least then, if you can find no one to jump you, you have a source of power. Just let it sit on the battery for a few hours, should get you up and running. Most places sell batteries with 50% charge or less.
well the battery was dead. like 5% left in it or something. so traded for another one and it checked out. wagon is back on the road.
For the record, "driving it around with the electronics turned off" is not such a good idea to recharge a battery that has been severely discharged. Imagine draining a bucket through a coffee stirrer and filling it with a drinking straw. That's about what you're doing. Recharging with a regular battery charger is like filling a bucket with a water hose. The alternator is only designed to recharge the battery at a rate comiserate with how much it discharges during normal use. Any more than that can cause the alternator to fail (btw alternators are MUCH more expensive than battery chargers). Glad to hear you got it back on the road though. Brandon
