Wife signed me up for this for my b-day; they send you a box of brews every month. Most are really nice.

I'll be posting in this thread with my comments on each one I try. :)

    Luau lager, Waimea Brewing Company.

I'm not a lager guy at all, honestly. Give me a good ale any day and I'm happy; in fact I'm hard pressed to name ANY ales I don't enjoy. Lagers, not so much.

That said, I REALLY like this one. It is incredibly smooth (none of that raspiness of cheaper lagers), smells wonderful, and has a surprisingly sweet taste. I can't help but think of it as a lager version of Boddington's (though not near as sweet); it's pretty hoppy (not to Old Speckled Hen levels, mind you) but has a little zing which seems a tamer version of the typical lager bite.

    Will probably purchase this again.

Thats awesome, how many beers do they send you a month?

I'll be reporting back on my favorite cheap beer and cheap malt liquor soon.

Hey moose..ever had Yuengling? Its probably my favorite lager, and actually quite delicious, especially when it is $5 a pitcher (god I love living in a college town)

Oh, and Tom, I think we should have a big party when you get your ass back here and get another suby

I usually get Yuengling when we head to the beach house (Hilton Head). I love their black and tan, and they're certainly leaps and bounds above Bud, Coors, Miller etc.

Unfortunately I can't find it in GA.

Swing over this way sometime and we'll hit the Snellville Summit's... they have around 110 beers on tap and far more bottled. :)

That's a Penn. beer right?....my Dad in NY is a fan...Have you tried Sam Adams Summer Ale yet?...pretty nice on tap...I hate Sam Adams, but gotta give them props on this though..

Yeah, the Sam's Summer Ale isn't bad. I actually like most of their stuff; they're a macrobrewery but their beers taste like micros.

Yeah we just got Yuengling here in Clemson, and they have had it down at the beach in SC for a while now. From what I hear, they are slowly spreading west, and shoud probably be to Atlanta sooner or later. If I can, I will bring a few cases down next time I am back in town.

I don't like those 1000 tap places usually 1000 beers that are not fresh in my experience
I'll try anything once or three times though hehe

Yuengling is the oldest brewery in the US. they are out of PA and probably won't make it to GA for a while. they are making Yuengling at, i think, a coors or bud factory in FL now. GA has some ridiculous distribution laws. there are only 5 i believe distributors in GA, to get them to do just that, distribute beer, a company MUST pay some weird bible belt tax. and Yuengling won't pay it. (not really called a bible belt tax)
now this all came to me from a liquor store guy in duluth, so if something i've written isn't totally true, oops.

oh, and the best ale to my pallet is sweetwater 420. mmm mmm good.
not a lager fan at all. they are just too tasteless and light. i like me a cold weather beer all year round.
anyone been to brick store pub in decatur? they have a GREAT high gravity beer bar up stairs. good stuff to be had there....

I assume if GA has some bible belt tax, SC has a more strict one. They were slowly progressing across SC, starting at the beach, and we just got it up here. What a liquor store guy here told me was that they are very conservative in spreading, and they dont want to spread too quickly, but also, that is just something I heard from a liquor store guy.

Also, I have been to the brick store pub in decatur, and it is great. The parents took me there for dinner on my 21st b-day...I think our drink bill for the family was like $200 without food or tip haha

Odell Cutthroat Porter, from Odell Brewing Co.

Wonderful. It's like Guinness mixed with roasted coffee beans with a hint of dark chocolate somewhere in there. Has a brighter and somewhat fruitier taste than my very favorite porter: Carnegie (from the homeland nonetheless!). This is a porter for t-bone and NY strip steaks; for a filet mignon you want something more muted and subtle IMO.

(Porter is a type of ale, in case you're wondering; rather dark and medium bodied--not a stout but shares some similar characteristics.)

Hey Guys...check out www.gabf.org...you will like it...Also check out www.beertown.org for some more interesting info. I used to volunteer as a Beer Captain at the GABF in Denver...It was a total blast...I highly recommend going to the GABF if you truly enjoy microbrews....

try corsendonk christmas, it's great, very dark and complex, best served cold, when it warms it really gets an odd overpowering taste, I usually have it in a small tumbler.
I got a whole bunch of the "champagne" bottles of beer at a bullocks or however they spell it down the street from me, I wrote them down and then promptly lost all the info I was gonna make a post with.

I love both Celis White and Weihanstephan(sp?). I really love the Hefe-Weizen beers and Porters. Celis is no longer in existence, but I think I would choose Paulaner as my second choice. They both rock..I don't drink that much beer anymore except when I had that great beer at Eric's house...BTW...That beer rocked...
