Best Barbecue I've ever had...

Discussion in 'Kitchen & Cellar' started by StarquestAndyR, Mar 16, 2007.

  1. If anyone is ever in the peachtree Ind area just south of 285, go grab BBQ at the "Pig n' Chik" right across from the great gatsby on peachtree ind. Best bbq pulled pork I've ever had, period.

anyone know any really good bbq in the marietta area - and dont say williamson bros, cause their pulled pork is like shredded leather.

I'm from Texas, I have to say it, no BBQ place here really compares to good BBQ. And I don't understand this infatuation with pulled pork instead of Beef. Beef brisket is where it's at! Start trying out beef brisket, I actually got most everyone at work hooked on that including the CEO. I haven't found a good bbq place here yet.

    +1 from a fellow Texan....

Nothing compares to some good Beef Brisket, of which I've not found a good local provider either. :(

  6. I'll probably grab bbq for lunch today, I'll try your beef brisket and let you know how I like it.

I used to work with a texan and he gave me crap about liking pulled pork too. He said brisket was the best, but I never tried it. I guess since my father likes williamson bros, I'll have a perfect chance to try it cause like I said above, their pulled pork is horrible.

There's a lot of good hole in the wall BBQ places. For the downtown area my 2 favorites are Fat Matt's Rib Shack and Dusty's

You MUST try  Sam and Dave's BBQ1!!! I'm a BBQ fiend and it's the best I've ever had. It's off Lower Roswell near Johnson's Ferry in the antique mall center behind Kroger. Try the brisket or the pulled chicken...

I've heard good things about Dusty's...a team member was hyping it up yesterday in the office.

I make a point of trying every BBQ place I've heard is good. +1 for Sam and Dave's and Pig n Chick being good. Fat Matt's, Harolds, Williams Bros, Melears, and that place off Roswell near Mansell were ok. Probably my favorite pulled pork is easy to find... at Smokey Bones. For beef brisket... we make it at home. My dream vacation is still to motorcycle around the country trying different BBQ places. BTW, Memphis BBQ restaurants are like Mexican restaurants in Texas. I can't remember my favorite Memphis BBQ place, but it was supposedly Elvis's favorite (2 separate buffets, AYCE!!). They had a bunch of Elvis stuff there too.

Brisket just never sounds like something I want to be digesting :)

Haha, I've had it before and I still prefer some good pulled pork. I mean, whose ever heard of a suckling cow?

  14. Back from lunch...

And yet another reason that Williamson Bros BBQ sucks - they dont have brisket! I was all geared up to try something new, and I was denied.

  15. My favorite has always been pappy reds in cumming.(PRBBQ)

Dusty's is around the corner here on Clifton Rd and N Druid Hills. I've witnessed them taking precooked ribs out of vacuum packs and throwing them on the grill to char and try to impart some smoke into them.

Everything else is average at best. It's slightly above Sonny's.

    Maarietta BBQ places.

The best BBQ I've had in Marietta is Sam and Daves BBQ1 and BBQ2, and both their beef brisket and pulled pork are wonderful. The meats they serve are not over cooked or dry and chalky, and for me the smoked flavor isn't too strong where it overpowers the flavors in the meat.

I think their North Carolina style sauce is a little on the sweet-side for a NC vinegar based sauce, and it could use a bit more heat, but I like their KC sauce.

    They do have two locations:

BBQ1 is on Lower Roswell Road near where it intersects Johnson Ferry Rd., and it's a tiny location with only a couple of tables.

BBQ2 is a larger location off of Whitlock avenue and it's more equipped for dine-in business.

    Dusty's

Dusty's is great, I like their NC pork BBQ sandwhiches,

Their homemade potato chips are worth trying too.

The bbq place on 14th street is great if you can catch it before they close ~3pm.

I also have to mention a GREAT Korean BBQ joint called Hae Woon Dae of of Buford Highway next to a strip club called Roosters Barnyard.

Their barbecued meats are cooked on a burner at the table, and then you make your own burritos from the meat and Romaine lettuce.

Several types of tasty kimchi also come with the meal.

It's not slow cooked, but it sure is tasty.

There's an extremely tasty mexican resturant not too far from Vinings or Downtown that has a kick ass BBQ'd brisket with a slight mexican flare -- Nuevo Laredo

Dreamland BBQ. Hands down. The original in Tuscaloosa is even better.

Although the Pig-n'-Chik is pretty tasty.
