Best 'spirited' tire?

Whats the best tire for around the $200 a tire range? I have Pirelli Corsas right now, and they're fairly decent, I was wondering what the optimum tire for the money was... I do quite a bit of mountain runs, so a 'track' style tire would probably work better than an autocross tire due to the harder compound.

Why not another set of those? Ive been reading through the latest grassroots, there's been a few new tires / revamped tires that have been released that look nice. I'll look them up.

I had the Falken RT615s. They were incredible in all conditions except standing water. They were by far the best street tire I have ever run on the Auto X course.

I've been really happy with my Bridgestone S03s, getting Kumho SPTs installed on monday, I'll let you know how they go even though they're way below your price range.

RE070s are better than any other street tire IMO. If you can find a used set, snag them up.

I've run the Azenis in the past and they were good. I have the Hankook R-S2 and they are good as well.

I've used the Pirelli PZero Corsas on the track and liked them too.

I am running the falken 615s and I have been very impressed with them on Dry and Wet conditions.

I agree! That makes three votes for the 615 if you're counting.... too bad they don't make them in 245/45/16! :wtc:

I loved the re070s but, they wear our way too quick. I went through my stock set in 3 months.

Well I think the 615s have the same rating as the re070s, so just keep that mind.

Are you looking for just a summer tire or something that handles water and other conditions a little better?

Summer... Ther ideal tire in my opinion, would the the Pirelli Corsas with a harder compound on the sides. The tires that came on Alex's wheels had decent tread left, but the tread on the sides was worn all the down. All the reviews on tirerack stated the same about teh sides.

Wonder how much of that is due to a soft sidewall? My last tires (Mich Pilot Sports) were bald on the sides long before anything else. They would fold over in hard turns and eat the edges off... Even though they were 280 treadwear, the outer 2"s were smooth by 15K! The 615s have such a solid sidewall they don't roll onto the edges. Because you'll get about the same life out of both, might as well get the good stuff. I had 5-6K on my 615s and they looked like this when I took them off.
