You all seem to do a lot of tire pondering for AutoX/track... I'm looking into something and I wanted to see if you could shed some light on this. I have 17x7s with 215/45 Azenis 615s now. Love them for the street, but that's not much rubber on the ground for auto X and track days. I'm going to 16x8s with my wheels, but I don't know what size rubber to get. They don't make the "good" tires in 245/45 r16. My question- would you go 245/45 with something like the Yoko AVES100 (or something like that), or 225/50 with, for example, the 615s or MXs... So is a "good" 225/50 going to out perform an average 245/45 on a track? The 245 will look better and last a lot longer, so I'm keeping that in mind too. Thanks everyone! :wiggle:
Hoosier A6 and R6 245-45-16 Kumho V710s in 225-50-16 and 265-45-16 Kumho VictoracerV700 245-45-16 and 265-45-16 Unless you are running in Street Tire class, r-comps are must for a compeititive autox car. Don't forget my favorite track tire the Toyo RA1 available in 245-45-16 and 225-50-16 Street tires are street tires, i really don't think you are going to see *that* much difference in grip unless you switch to a "r-comp".
whats your mods? if you are legal for STX... you should find a set of RE070's to stick on there. Best tire ever in 225/45/17. Otherwise...I'd recommend the 235/40/17 Hankook Ventus RS-2 Z212. Around $100 each at most places online.
Those are great tires.. but they're not made in 245/45/16. I was really looking for info on advantages of 245s despite poor tire choices, and if 225 was going to be about the same. Any big advantages of either I'm not seeing? Also, I can't afford several sets of Victoracers. I drive about 7K/year on the street.
RE's are definitely classy. The stock evo tire is on par as well and can be had usually in the same luck as the RE takeoffs. In fact, there is a set of RE's for sale on the forums from ShaneSTi. Let me know what you decide, Ill get you a good price on the tires.
I'm talking 16x8s here. Width is my concern... 245/45/16 vs. 225/50/16 ??? 245s come in street compounds, and 225s come in aggressive street compounds.
Aren't there any 235's? If you are running a 16x8, a 225 is not a lot of rubber for that large of a rim. I run the Hoosier R comp 245/45/16 on my WRX and love it. The R comp lasts so much longer than the A comps, and as long as you have a co-driver there is no problem getting heat into them. The R comp is easy to find used on the internet with a lot of tread left, because a lot of BMW series use that specific tire comp.
THANK YOU! That's what I was looking for. I had the same thought, but wanted someone else to say it. I'm looking for 235s, but can't find anyhting worth while. That really would be a good solution. Anybody have a good idea for 245 r16 street tires?
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compa...20&pagenum=1&pagemark=1&x=102&y=9&RunFlat=All Thats a search from tirerack. Most of those tires are good, but they will be a little expensive. You can do a search there also for a 235. If you run a 45 aspect ratio, your speedometer won't be as accurate as before. The bridgestones in that search are probably one of the best tires for autox/street. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compa...=20&pagenum=1&pagemark=1&x=74&y=7&RunFlat=All. The Goodyears there aren't that bad either. I would suggest sticking with a 280 treadware tire or less. Make sure you read what the maximum tire width's are for STX also.
That's a good call on the Bridgestone RE750s. I had overlooked them because of the 340 treadwear and price, but that's not all that hard I guess. And they come in 245/45... I like that. hmmm.... even for 500 a set, if they last longer it's not too bad. I'm not worried about my autoX class. I'm about to put on a vf39 and I don't go to enough events to be competitive.
Make sure you look at a bunch of different tire sits, you may be able to find a cheapier tire somewhere. Vulcan tires and Discount tires are two other places I visit frequently. http://www.vulcantire.com/index.html www.tires.com You could also run a 235 on your 17x7's. Instead of going to the 16x8's. There are a lot of options in the 235/45/17. That is the size that I am planning on getting in the next month. You could easily find a less expensive tire.
+1, i saved $100 on a set of tires during one of discount's promotions... totally worth waiting for if you can.
Repeat after me its a stock turbo, its a stock turbo, its a stock turbo.............................Ok good, you now have a stock turbo, heck most subaru people cant tell the diffrence LOL
What size is that?! Thats crazy. Run whatever you want, just know that the WRX 2.0L will never be nationally competitive in SM. I got stuck in ESP right from the beginning and now that I really like soloII, I wish I changed how I had modified my car.
