this is driving me nuts. Appears to return every summer. Last summer it happened and I took the car in and had to looked at. They found nothing and compression test was perfect. So now its back again...

I have noticed it tossing the cel just when i crank the car up during idle. The idle appears a little more rough than normal and gas mileage seems to be suffering. I just replaced the belts due to a squeeling ac and replaced my dirty air filter. I am running a perrin light weight fly wheel which I have had on the car for over 4 yrs with no issues. roughly 67K on the car. 2005 STI

Any suggestions what else to check?

I was going to do the following before taking it to dealership:

    1. check plugs/gaps
    2. Swap coil packs around
    3. Clean my MAF
    4. Pull of IC and put back on ensure no leaks etc..
    5. Compression test
-- ??? do i need to goto dealership for this or can i just pick up the testing kit from a local auto shop??

    6. off to dealership ... blah....

    pEd This ain't no Piccadilly!

Do #1 and #2 on your list first.
Make sure it's not one of those before you go any further.

I would also swap the injectors around. You could have a sticky/dirty injector.

Well I pulled plugs and coil packs. Plugs looked good, so I swapped coil packs. Also cleaned the MAF with some MAF cleaner. Had a few too many beers in me to hit the road and test it out yet. The idle appeared a little smoother, so maybe it was a loose coil pack.

I did discover what appears to be a leak from where the hard lines that feed the turbo oil. Its at the junction of two lines. Least when I looked down near DP i noticed some residual oil on the bolt alone with touching the junction i got oil on my fingers. Tryin to look below the turbo it looked like some parts had oil on them.
What are long term affects if the amount of oil getting to the turbo is reduced???

I am going to try to get into the dealership to see if they will check it out. I cant see how this could be "voided" due to the car being modified. The turbo has never been off the car. Worth a shot.

Well turns out the hard line to the turbo was spewing pretty bad. I also got lucky that the car threw a P0302 as i pulled in. So thankfully for the extend warranty and they are replacing my injector and the hard line. Hopefully the car will be back to normal soon.

I've got this rule about spark plugs, if I take them out I replace them, at less than 2 bucks each its just easier to replace them. Some cars always throw that code.

Cool, if you have the warranty let the dealer sort it out. Otherwise, your diag list was spot on, after adding the injector sway out as well. Put all the Cylinder 2 items into another cylinder and see if the problem moves over.

I agree with Matt, some cars, especially when modded can throw misfire codes from time to time as well.

Mine seems to hate the texas heat. It threw the same CEL last summer. Dealer didnt do squat, but shift some injectors and coil packs around. Had to make sure they just replaced them this year.

Mine misfired on the EJ205 in the rain CONSTANTLY. When I swapped to the Ej257 it never did it again. VERY WEIRD.

Hopefully the injector swap fixes yours.

Was your car ever tuned here?

There or here? I have not had it re-tuned in texas yet.

I know i need to, but I am being lazy. I probably could data log and shoot the files to SS and get it tweaked.

Well what's the temp difference between our two states right now? Could it be a tune related issue?

Its close to the same, but I know i get ton heat soak. Probably a little more hot here, so that may be something. Just talked to dealership today and then only got "half" the hardline. Going to be another week till the other half is in... wtf. ship it all together
