Forgive me if this it's kind of off topic for this section, ok i have a hks ssbov and it only "opens" sometimes at very high rpm's; sometimes it doesn't even sound at all, my question is: what is the failure of this bov? take into account that i opened it and everything looks fine! sorry if perhaps this is so obvious and thank you for any clarification!

I installed the stock bov and now the car feels more laggy, it's a sti with TB and AP 93 oct.

    thank you!

if ANYTHING the car should feel less laggy especially between shifts with the STOCK BPV back on. but the spring on the HKS probly needed to be loosened. it was probly set to only blow off at a higher pressure, meaning the spring was too tight.

I would guess is that the valve is just completely open. I believe (though I could be wrong) that the reason there is any sound in the first place is because the valve is open just slightly instead of completely open.

Does it happen all the time or just sometimes?

    The spring is too tight.

Reseting the ECU won't do anything for a BOV as that is purely mechanical.

  7. True, but wouldn't reseting the ECU help with the car feeling laggy with the stock BOV back on? Of course it all depends on if its recirculating like it should be...

He would not be able to build any boost if that was the case and it would be very audible.

I agree. It sounds liek the spring is too tight and I would not use that BOV it at all until it is fixed.

It could possibly. It's not wise to reset the ECU a lot. Most of the time the ECU will give you all the settings back after a couple of good driving cycles. If you have a problem and you reset the ECU you are asking for trouble. Resetting the ECU really should be a last resort.

Why is that? I'm just curious....hope this isn't threadjacking :eek:hnoes:

I have the same BOV and have been holding off installing it for quite sometime as I have deeper problems at the moment. Do you have the new design or the older one? I wonder if it's an inherent problem with a particular version?

Just something Siegel told me a while back. If the ECU isn't happy then it yanks back timing and such. It did it for a reason. However if you know for a 'fact' what the issue was and you know for a 'fact' that it's fixed then by all means reset it.

Exactly. For example, bad gas will pull timing and possibly the advance multiplier. If you have a way to monitor it, you could tell. Thats how I would know which gas stations to avoid. I'd fill up somewhere else and reset it.
