03 wrx. I bought the car a few months ago and I'm pretty sure my turbo went out last night. My boost gauge stays at the 0 bar and I can hear a rattling sound coming from my turbo. maybe the bearings went out? I'm not much of a mechanic and I'm still learning but anyway does a faulty turbo sound like the culprit and can anyone recommend who/where I can get a replacement oem for cheap or an affordable upgrade? any help is greatly appreciated!
BNR 205-640-1193 Bryan can rebuild or upgrade starting at $450.00. Usually a one week turn-a-round or less if needed
Check to make sure your wastegate actuator did not have the E clip come off. The wastegate actuator should have a rod going from it to the wastegate that is held in place by a small clip. I have seen the clip pop off before and it can have similar symptoms. If it is, you should be able to find another one at just about any parts place. This looks like a little round canister bolted to the turbo with a rod going from the front back towards the turbine housing.
stupid i know but i just took the down pipe off and checked the turbine and there doesnt seem to be any play to it at all. I'm about to check the e clip you were talking about
just checked and the e clips are on there. could it be possible there could be play on the up pipe side and not the down pipe side?
Best just to take it off and see what is going on....are you sure that it is the turbo? Does the wheel spin freely?
yeah it does spin, but im not getting any boost and feel like im driving a spectra. That doesnt necessarily mean its not the turbo though right? Could there be another way the wastegate could be stuck open?
