Noticed this twice now. If my WRX has sat for around 2 days or so there is a good bit of blue smoke that comes out of the tail pipe upon start up. It doesn't last long usually just one big puff when I first drive off, and then no more. Aside from that, I am buring about 1 quart between oil changes ( every 3000 miles) Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
how many miles on car...and has it always been 1 quart lost between changes since you've had the car.
sounds like completely normal blowby to me.... I don't wanna hear anyone complain with the completely inexplainable smoking that my car is doing. (I am getting a compression test done as soon as i get back in town tho)
I'd say valve guides and/or stem seals. I don't think it would be anything else because it's not doing it any other time. That's a relatively minor issue, and will take a long time to get worse. As ar as oil consumption, lots of turbo cars do that.. I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes excessive.
loosing 1qt between oil changes is normal and within limits, just keep an eye on the level and top off as needed between oil changes. also remember that we have horizontal engines so oil may sit in the cylinders if you leave it sitting for a while, and it would be normal for that oil to burn off once you started it back up.
There is 84k on the engine. I wasn't worried about the oil consumption, and actually it is more like only a half of a quart every 3k. I check it every other fill up at the station. As far as the smoke is concearned, I got a response on NASIOC that sounded like it made sense. A guy replied that when the car sits for an extended period of time the oil on the sides of the cylinder walls puddles up at the bottom of the cylinder and then on start up it burns off... If that were the case though, would that happen to everyones car? Thanks for the replies.
