I read a LOT of stuff about this and yes I am planning on gettin some kind of em soon but from reading creep is just envitable reguardless when you have a tbe it just happens. do you hear this when it happens? do I have to port the wastegate to get rid of it. I don't have a boost controller yet and the car drives fine and no cel yet(knock on wood) just hearing some kinda whizzing noise but only when I'm moving what the hell is that.

Are you running a stock wrx turbo or the STI stock VF39? I think the STI VF39 is the turbo that has the big creep problem, and are you seeing creep on a boost guage? If you are running a TD04 it may be less of an issue.

If you just upgraded your downpipe from stock, it just may be more noisy. I noticed more wastegate and woosh noise coming from my aftermarket downpipe than from the stocker on my old 2004 WRX.

probably just the wastegate... if ur creeping bad, u should hit fuel cut

you probably won't experience much boost creep until it
starts getting into the cold weather season.

I threw a cel on the way to work today was waitin for that to happen so whats the next step just ride like that till I get em? I still havent done my up yet eithier.

stock up,turbo, aftermarket tbe. thats prob. what it is just makin sure cause I only hear it when i step on the gas no matter how lite or hard.

It's not cutting off just makin sure the sounds are "normal" other than that lovin that sound:)

Tiding around with the nice ambiant glow of the check engine light shouldn't hurt anything.

When I tried the 04 I tried putting my O2 sensor into a couple of piggybacked (1 arrestor drilled out) spark plug arrestors as a mechanical cel fix but that didn't clear all the codes and the car still threw cels. There was also an electronic O2 simulator fix that involves splicing wires that I never attempted.

if the sound is something like 'shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh' and stops when u get off the gas, then thats normal...

you should not have boost creep issues with the td04 also make sure you get a boost gauge soon if you dont have one already

I would look into a mechanical fix or a MIL splicing fix. I did the later by splicing in a ponyexpress electronic fix and have had no problems since. I dont like seeing a CEL. My personal opinion is to take care of it immediately just incase some other problem happens you can see a CEL.

if you can install a UP and a DP you shouldnt have any problems with this.

yup..kind of a rip off but its better than a CEL on all day if you cant afford EM just yet

Im not going to say its impossible, but I dont see the wrx turbo creeping...at all. Its 80-90 degrees outside as well. You are correct, creep is a mechanical problem, but I doubt that's the CEL you just threw.

Did you notice any jarring or a surge when the CEL occurred, or you just turned on the car and it was there?

Ha! dp yes up hmm dont think I should be allowed to do that myself. If Ryan didnt tell me to recheck a lot of stuff anit not tellin if I would have a car right now!

I just got a TBE myself. instead of the fix, you could just go to autozone and have them pull the code for free and make sure it's an expected one until you get EM, i got a cat inefficency one on right now. I noticed with my boost gauge, i'm hitting 13-13.5 psi at WOT as opposed to 11 on the stock one, i guess that's normal.

Most auto stores will pull your CEL for free. Just post up what it is and we'll help you fix it.

I don't think knghtrdr has boost creep...

It's likely just the PO420 = cat code. Generally 2 drilled spark plug arresters will fix it... (at that auto parts store it's the red HELP! brand part number 42002)

I did and that's exactly what it is! but why does it say below threshold? I asked the guy if he had something to fix it with and said no. but then again he didn't know what the code ment either.

Sorry, I was hoping to get you before you went... just go get the HELP! (bright red box, on a big rack) part number 42002 (spark plug arrestors), a good 1/2" drill bit, and some wd40.

Drill out the 2 "spark plug arrestors" (using the wd-40 to keep the bit cool). Screw the arrestors together, then into the DP where the REAR O2 is (near the bottom back of the downpipe). Then just put the rear O2 into that. Generally that's all that's required to kill the P0420 CEL.

    Good luck,

Auto parts stores have them... Autozone, Pep Boys, Advanced, etc... I don't know if Home Depot will have it...

I went to ace hardware and got everything except the arrestors, was drilling and the battery in the drill died halfway through will finish it up tomorrow. I think my exhust it clanging around but I already have the o ring thing for that.

    Done!

finished it yesterday, it took a couple of days to come on so i'm assuming it's gonna take a few more to go off. took some pix with my phone so I'll post some in the diy section when the cel goes off.

  31. don't wait for it to turn off. just reset your ecu (disconnect negative terminal on your battery for few seconds) hehe ;)

btw, sent you a tracking number for your gauge hehe
