I know that I do not need new pads yet, but when I do I would like to upgrade. I have heard a lot of good things about Hawk and Carbotech pads, and I will probably go with whatever is cheaper but still better than stock pads.

The question is, what model numbers do I need to look for, as most of the places that sell upgraded pads have them listed for the sti/wrx 4-pot(front), 2-pot(rear) brakes. AFAIK, my brakes are 2-pot(front), 1-pot(rear). I would assume that this means I need different pads than the wrx, right?

Also, if anyone can recommend a good reliable pad that isn't too expensive and yet still better than stock, feel free to advise!

This way when I need new pads I can have them picked out already

    Thanks!

That is subydude. It has the part numbers by vehicle and year for the Hawk's. It also has the Carbos on there. What you have described, it sounds like you just want the Hawks. The are the best for the price probably. The carbo's are more, but not a whole lot more impressive. I have been using the EBC's greenstuff, it doesn't have the upper temp range that I want, so I will not be getting these pads again.

    Oops!

I even looked on Subydude, but somehow missed that info; thanks for helping me out!
Wait, it only has 2.5rs up through 2005. Are the brakes the same on the 2005 rs and the 2006 2.5i?

Cause if they are, that would make lie a lot easier until these sites update their info for 2006-7 models.

Yeah, the just gave you the "i" to make you feel special. Just kidding, I really don't know. I assume the only difference is probably that they tweaked a little more hp out of the engine by using some variable valve timing or something.

If you're going to do brakes I'd try to find a set of front wrx brake brackets and rotors. It'll help your braking substantially.

What model year wrx would I get these parts from, and are there aftermarket alternatives as well?

For my brake upgrades I was simply thinking pads, lines and fluid upgrade because I still have to get new tires to make any brake upgrade worth it!

Any year wrx will work. Just make sure you buy new pads for the corresponding year wrx.

OK, some questions before I even think about changing rotors:

    1. Will this negatively alter my front to rear brake bias? Will it make me dive forward more in hard braking?

2.Would it be a good idea to look into rear upgrades as well, such as the H6 upgrade I hear so much about?

    3. Will these upgrades do me any good until I upgrade to tires stickier than my current 440 treadwear?

It will actually reduce your car from diving.

The H6 rear upgrade or 94 turbo legacy rears would be a great addition to this.

Yes. It will probably put you at the limit of the tires. Until your tires chirp from braking you've still got some left, I think.

OK, let the search for (reasonably priced) parts begin!

The brackets you can find pretty cheap from wrx owners upgrading to new setups. The H6 can be had for around $200 or so from subarugenuineparts. And don't forget stainless braided lines and good fluid.

Forgot one question, will all of this stuff fit under the stock 16" wheel? I saw the mod on scoobymods, but it was on an older rs and the wheels are different looking. I think they are 16" wheels but just needed to ask anyway as these upgrades aren't going to do me any good if I need new wheels.
