I guess brian thinks that my pink wheels are going to beat him even more at autox so he is picking up a 1986 honda CRX si today. Mods include: Rebuilt 12 valve EW4 motor in 2003 (approximately 5,000 miles since rebuild) New .040 pistons and rings Rotating assembly balanced Head milled .010 Port matched 3 angle valve job New main and rod bearings New Honda factory gaskets New Centerforce clutch in 2004 4 into 1 Header with custom lightweight, high-flow exhaust Adjustable rear swaybar Oversized front swaybar Koni yellow adjustable shocks Rears new in 2003 Fronts new in 2004 25 mil torsion bars front 225 lb rear springs Momo leather wrapped steering wheel 13”X8” Diamond racing wheels (11lbs) with Hoosier AS304’s (less than 30 runs, lots of life left) Factory four-hole wheels with Azenis Zieks new in 2005 (approximately 1,500 miles driven) Custom in-car camera mount A/C delete Emissions delete Radio delete 5 point autox belts 1800 lbs. wet plus an extra Si engine and transmission. Now my butt will be kicked by a old crx .
I just got back from picking up the car... 900 mile round-trip... driving the CRX 450 miles, with no AC, no radio, no insulation (heard every noise from the road), no muffler (straight pipe with 2 resonators) and a extra engine and box of clinking parts in the back of the car. But, it was fun. The car still accelerated uphill in 5th gear without downshifting. It will be a crazy beast. Once I take off the puny 14"x5" wheels and put on the wide 225/45-13 hoosiers on 13" x 8" wheels, it should be an autocross beast. Here is a pic of the tires in comparison to Mere's new 255/40-17 victoracers: They don't have many runs on them, and are supposed to be the best tires you can get for the car With the reduced diameter wheel, 2nd gear should be perfect for autocross. On a side note... our garage has lots of tires in it now... 3 sets of r-compounds, extra set of re050s and a pair of s2k rear tires. 18 tires total, not including the 2 cars to be parked in the garage. -- Brian
It's certainly a beast. The front seat is slightly broke, so i can't reach the pedals. I'll go take some pics!
It looks ghetto Here are the pics that I was sent before I went to get the car: http://mere.darg.net/crx I will clean up the car a bit and take some new pics. I have the extra engine in the back that I need to figure out how to take out of the car, and find a place to store it... -- Brian
I put on the Hoosiers, set the shocks to autocross settings and went for a little ride tonight. It is quite a crazy little car. Here are a few pics: It badly needs a paint job, and I need to think of a name for it. My last civic hatchback was called GhettoSled.. might apply the same name to this car. -- Brian
Video from previous owner from autocross: http://www.tastybeef.com/crx/CRX.WMV and more pics of the ugly beast: Alright.. enough diluting the boards with pictures of hondas. I will have this thing at the next bmwcca autocross event if anyone wants to see it in action. We should have 5-6 people driving it for a couple of runs each to see who can get the best times. -- Brian
Why wait for the BMWCCA event? http://www.soloatlanta.com has better course designs and more competition. Next one is THIS SUNDAY!! Sign up and test it out.
Subaru challenge... I don't think that we can get back in time, althought I might be able to if I signed up for novice afternoon. -- Brian
my friend josh has a black crx too... it isn't anywhere close to race ready but he plans to autoX it some day
good luck at the autoX guys... im going to watch crystal method the night before so i doubt i'll be able to make it out to race sunday
You should try to come out. I should be able to drive back from the Subaru Challenge on Saturday night to make it to the event on Sunday. I registered both my s2k and crx, so I will decide which I want to drive when I get back in town (most likely the crx). -- Brian
i really doubt i will make it... my weather forecast says late night and alcohol flooding on saturday night followed by severe hangover on sunday
