What adavntages disadvantages does each have? I wanted to get a CAI, but upon thinking about it i wondered if it is worth it. A CAI, obviously, is ment to cool the air more before getting to the engine. But does this have any added affect on turbo cahrged cars since the compression made by the turbo causes the air temperature to increase. Wouldnt this counter act the whole point behind a cold air intake?? Any feed back would be great!!! Thanks
From everything I've heard just get the silencer delete elbow for the stock intake and it works the same. You don't need a CAI until you have mucho hp. The short ram takes in hot air from the engine bay and the CAI is the better of the two but will not be a noticeable at near stock ratings on our cars. It does make a nice sound though.
you will see minimal gains with an intake, you might even lose HP with a short ram. unless you are going bigger turbo i dont think than an intake is worth it.
i had a perrin short ram that i turned around a sold bc we dont need them for our cars. Do you even gain gas mileage with them? the stock airbox is good for like 300+hp anywayz, just do the silencer delete.
i have short ram small effects + bad in rain... it cuts air thru the car so the car could stall and turn on your car light.. over all i would go with a CAI then SRI. ... so keep in mind dont waste money behind SRI go for CAI if u wanna go for it at all
yeah, just take a hacksaw to the silencer, put a torch to the edge of the elbow (the part you're putting back to remove plastic fuzzies) and reinstall. later on, if you wanna go CAI (stay away from shorties-no not *those* shorties) and study carefully where the tube ends. AEM and i think K&N are higher up in the well (good IMO), and theINJEN is a a bit lower (almost bumber level-bad if you forsee driving through deep puddles))
i've seen that pict too, is that actually the wrx/sti model? i thought it was just a general sample photo. i didn't think they went through the sidewall on our cars. if that's the case, then great, i wouldn't mind getting one myself.
without proper tuning or a well modded car already, the stock intake is the most efficient. the MAF is way to sensitive for aftermarket intakes when the rest of the car is mostly stock. cobb just made one that takes this into account, but even they dont claim any added power to the car, just sound. hack the silencer instead.
There are a few people(Stephen for one) running this setup on their cars on here, maybe they will chime in. best part is that you can still use your stock cai duct. i will see if i can find a installed pic
