Can I steam clean my seats?

My roommate is going to be bringing up a steam cleaner next week to really clean up the floors of our apartment (spring cleaning). Which had me thinking that perhaps it would work on my car seats as well. I usually just vacuum them, but they aren't exactly as black as they use to be. It's not stained, not really sure why they had a whitish tinge to them.

I figured this ought to make them look brand new again. The only issue I can see is water vapor getting into the fabric, but as long as it's a clear day I can just leave the windows open to dry.

You can steam clean your seats at my shop when you drop the suspension off if you want.

Beat your seats with your hands. It works. All the white shit is just dust.

Didn't see this in time, ah well. I have tried things to get the dust out, but nothing really seems to work.

Water should not be a problem. I have a friend who works at a car wash back home. He took his seats out and pressure washed them. They came out looking brand new.

Why do I need to be careful with the seams?

Either way I get to wait, he won't be back until next weekend :unamused:

well depending on what attachment you use they can snag the stitching sometimes.. at least that's what my brother in law said.

Take a stiff bristle brush to the seats to "aggitate" the dirt and such stuck inside, recline the seat all the way so you can get in to the crack between the upper and lower.

If you want to make a day out of it, pull both seats so you can vaccum beneath them ;) if you pull them, then you can hit them with an air nozzle (if you have air) to really blast the shit out of them prior to the steam cleaning.

Tempting, but at my apartment I won't have any of the tools to do that nor the time. I'll just see what I can do with his cleaner and then leave it be.

Taking the seats our requires 4 bolts and 5 minutes. While you're at it you can steam clean the carpet

Can you clean the Alcantara STi seats with one of those carpet cleaners? I have one with a nifty hand attachment.
