It will be here next week (new) I hate it when i have to question so many things on an important part (although simple) for the car. So i bit the bullet and bought it new. I will need some help. Anyone willing to spend an hour or so on educating me the details and warning me what to do and not to do with it. Ill be more than happy to drive over. Im in Lawrenceville.
I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have(to the best of my ability)... Although, all I did is set it up for Stage 2 93 oct and haven't touched it since. There are several AP owners on the site and I'm sure someone will be able to help!
I may be wrong, but i dont think i need to touch the ECU Everything is done with the plug under the sterring.
AP plugs into the OBDII port under the steering column I believe. Congrats on the purchase, I'm kinda regretting getting Ecutek since I've seen how many maps you can run on AP. Moose has done a lot of research and datalogging with his AP so I'd definately talk to him if you have any technical questions.
If you want to stop by during lunch (I work off Sugarloaf and 316), I'd be happy to give you a hand with it. It really isn't very difficult; just have to make sure you follow the steps and mainly that you turn off all lights/accessories before flashing the ECU. And yes, you only need to worry about plugging it into the OBDII port. No touching the ECU (physically!). As for datalogging, the only thing you need is the AP cable... download TARI datalogger and you're up and running. Very nice stuff.
Not a must... it's a good idea to go with a gutted or aftermarket one to have your turbo spool faster. Alex is also trying to sell one. :bootyshak
yes, i am trying to sell one, but they are very beneficial IMO, especialy for someone looking to go with EM
whats risky about it? it was on my car for abotu 8k miles so if anything was to come out it would have already come out, not to mention tht the person that guttred it for me made it shine on the inside. i promise you there is nothign to worry about with my gutted up.
Congrats on the AP purchase. I'll go ahead and say that his up-pipe is a smooth as a baby's bottom. Nothing is in there, and it ran splendily on his car until the accident.
Good call on the AP, you won't regret it (especially since TS does protuning). The intitial reflash isn't just a plug into the diagnostic port, there are a few other things to plug in under the dash, but it's still really straight forward and the directions are crystal clear. I don't blame you for not wanting to mess up your car, but I mean I did it, with minimal modern car experience in about 20 minutes with no problems.
I was goin to get help from SilverBugEye03 for the AP install. He will be out of town this weekend and I hate to keep the demon in the box. Can anyone lend a few minutes to help me install my AP for the first time. SAT PM will be great
I'm picking up Alex's up pipe on Saturday, I'd love to install it and I can bag on the trip to the inlaws Saturday afternoon, what if we meet in L'ville and have a install session? I'll bring the Brew.
Thanks MOose for assiting me in installing the AP It definately smoothed out some of the rough gear transitions, maybe i was pressing the gas a little more coz its a little more fun now. But so far only 20 mileson hwy 78 and around a few back roads. I expect it will retune itself in a few days and maybe will give me more umph. Thanks again moose for the cool ride in the black beast youll be 300whp soon. definately ill keep mua eyes out for a prodrive axleback from now
As I mentioned to you earlier, I bet you'll see some good gains once the ECU moves your advance multiplier back to normal... while I was never stage 1 myself, I know the AP has a huge impact on the smoothness of the car. The closed loop / open loop transition fix alone is worth the price of it, if you ask me. Keep us posted on how you like it!
Also, I forgot to mention... if you're not hitting target boost (read the map notes on Cobb's site, should be listed there) it might be because the wastegate arm on the 05s--at least on the WRX--tend to be on the loose side. It's a five minute adjustment, so if you need it done just stop by again and we'll tweak it.
i think im fine for now my buttdyno is happy for now and i saw a few glimpse of 14.5 psi while driving home.
