Car is pissing Coolant

Discussion in 'Modifications & DIY how-to' started by justinxecushyn, Jul 25, 2009.

  1. A few weeks ago i replaced my radiator with an aluminum one. Things were working fine for a week or so but now my bugeye is literally pissing coolant. I can't locate the source of the leak. I checked the radiator and its not coming from there but i know its coming from somewhere at the bottom. I'm thinking the water pump may have gone bad too as when the car starts to overheat, and i put more coolant in, once its cooled and i drive i hear a little whine sound.

Thought about taking it to All Pro or TopSpeed but I think both are closed today...

    Maybe head gasket?

TopSpeed should be open...just call before you show up.

Topspeed is racing this weekend so no one there.

I bet it is either the water pump or thermostat.

If it's one of those eBay mishimoto radiators then it is leaking from one of the welds more than likely. Danas does this too. Check all the welds on the radiator.

  5. how much am i looking at for waterpump and thermostat?

I checked the radiator and it was fine.

Are you pushing the coolant out of the overflow? If so it could any of the following

    1. Are the lines from the upper resevoir running to the radiator and overflow tank correctly? I had mine crossed and it drove fine for a month until it was getting tuned. On the second pull it looked like a geyser coming from the overflow tank.

    2. The radiator cap could be bad and it is not holding the pressure it should.

    3. Hope it is not this but it could be a head gasket.

If you are not pushing it out the overflow then it may be the water pump. The water pump on my SVX went out and made a whining noise a few minutes before it did. A good thing the SVX is non-interference because when the water pump seized the timing belt melted and the bearings in all of the pulleys and tensioners melted too. Do that on a WRX and you be looking for a new long block.

  7. get a pressure tester and pressurize the system and you should be able to find the leak unless its something like a cap.

  8. nope no coolant at all coming out of the overflow tank. and i to had a whine and a bit of a few squeeks when i start it up and sometimes when i drive.

Does it do it immediately or after the car is hot?

Also check the radiator drain plug. It should be located at the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side. The stopcock on my Mishimotto is bad and it drains intermittently. When it leaked at first it was pretty good stream until I replaced the 'O" ring.
