Do the 04-07 body style sti's rattle drastically with stereo systems. I have a jl audio 12" w6 I want to hookup. I know the sub will sound great, but don't want my car to sound like shit from vibration. I'm not going to add sound deadening materials because I don't wanna go through the hassle. Will hooking up my sub with stock headunit and stock speakers sound good?
STI's are rattle cans from the factory(newer models slightly less I've heard)... add bass and it only makes it worse. You need to look into dynomatting as much of your car as you can afford.
It isn't that much of a hassle to deadening key parts of the car. I'd suggest, at the very least, you consider deadening your rear deck and parts of your front door skins. You'll find that you gain a significant amount from these two areas. I'd also suggest a HQ 10" for these cars as it seems to put out just the right amount Oh, and don't be shocked if your rear view mirror falls off from large amounts of bass.
Well how much you think i would need to spend to take care of certain rattles and is dynamat the only thing you'd recommend. Im sure the HQ 10" is nice, but I already have the jl w6 w/jl ported box (my amp is old, 300w Crossfire, but works fine). If i do the sound dedeaning, i'd probably pay for someone/someplace to do it. Any suggestions on decent price?
What's your CC limit? In all seriousness, there are several great products out there that match or exceed "Dynamat" in quality and efficacy. Dynamat is a house-hold brand name, similar to Kleenex. However, it's far from the only brand out there. Shoot Slade1274 a PM. He's a local installer and will be more than happy to point ya in the right direction, should you require it. There's also Ben@KillShot, but I'm not certain he's still doing installs.
Fo sho, thanks for the feedback. And another thing, if i do hook up my sub and amp, keep the gain on amp up but not all the way, bass on factory HU down, and treble all the way up, you think it'll sound good enough with out upgrading to new speakers?
