i got my car (02 wrx) tuned today by S.S. up at Batlground, love the way he does what he does. i drove it home, 100 miles south to macon, and had a check engine light come on. code "P0420", i can clear it with accessport v2. but I would like to know what it means if possible. Nothing seams wrong with the car, so I'm not sure if there is something wrong or not. p.s.~S.S. I'm noticeing boost gaps in throtle with second and third, what could this mean? Gaps~goes up and down really fast through gears, the boost that is. thanks -William...
IIRC, that's the catalyst efficiency below threshold code. sounds like you're running catless and the O2 sensor is freaking out....

The P0420 should have been disabled with the tune. edit: can you be a little more specific with the 'boost surge' stuff? Are you seeing boost fluctuate up/down?

Don't wait till Monday I know SS he wants you to let him know of anything of concern. Better yet text him he loves that...unlike myself.
Thats just the downpipe cat sensor CEL, you can get spark plug defoulers and space the 02 sensor a little farther out of the exhaust pipe and it will go away easily. That or call Siegel and have him change the tune to remove the CEL and email you the new map for your car. As far as boost fluctuations, are you running a stock size boost restrictor? Elaborate more on what happens with the boost rising and falling.
ok, tomorrow i will get out and run the car. little late here now and all. but as far as the restricter plug, S.S. replaced it with another, saying it was better for my tune, something with the boost timing. didnt question him on it ether. the thing thats sucks is that he is so far away from me, and it didnt feel like this up there, but not to worried about it right now. going to see how it runs tomorrow during the day, after i clear this code i got. he made two maps for me, one regular and one with low waste gate. let me give yall some numbers tomorrow tho, and that way i can say a little more. thanks for the help and the code link, came in handy. -William...
but hey, the car came out nice. i went in with somewhere in the line of 190 whp and 180 w lb ft. ran out with 240+ hp and 255+ lb ft. stock wrx with up and down with cold air intake. boost is at 19 psi. S.S. did say with a higher reading dyno, i could see higher numbers, hint the + at the end of those numbers there. -William...

I have another map for you. E-mail me and I'll reply with the new map. Your car might require less low-throttle wastegate duty because I think we tightened the wastegate arm a bit further than stock... (this car come in a BASKET case of mechanical boost-control issues) Siegel
