I think this is in the right place.

I'm looking to get new brake pads and a new clutch installed in the near future. I was just wondering if there was anyplace in Atlanta that you all would reccomend. I'm trying to avoid a dealership because the one here in Augusta quoted me $500+ for brake pads and rotor rotation and $1200-1300 for a new clutch. These prices seemed rather ridiculous to me. I'm coming back up to Atlanta this weekend for the school year and just wanted your input.

    Thanks

Brake pads are probably the easiest thing to do besides an intake. I can post a DIY about this if there isn't already one. The only additional tool you would need is a $5 brake spreader. It takes less than 2 hours to do all four corners. Save yourself the crazy $500 they want. As far as the clutch goes, requires hoists, so its quite expensive.

you can do the pad change yourself but the you would be putting new pads on unturned rotors. people may think that this is ok, but if you don't want you rotors to end up all warped then by all means, knock it out yourself. the prices for a complete brake job is $520.00 pads, resurface rotors and change fluid. if you go to a "just brakes" or some shop like that they'll use aftermarket pads (not performance pads, just cheep ones) and they will make noise.
the clutch install was correct for what you were quoted. i would recommend the dealer to do this work because we know what we are doing. i'd say that even if i didn't work here (@ sog).
if you have any other q's call up here 678-584-7255. ask for Ephremn or Neal

Definately have a shop do the clutch, the pads you can do yourself. If you do have warped rotors, it isnt terribly expensive to find a place to do trim them a bit for ya.

I just have trouble believing that about the brakes. Brake pads seem to run between 120-140 for a set of four (I'm guessing Subaru oem pads are somewhere in there). So basically that leaves $400 just for the work. I don't know, maybe there is a lot more to rotating/resurfacing than i know (I really don't know much about brakes), it just seems excessive.

As for the clutch, I'm don't know exactly what the oem one goes for but I'm guessing around $500. So that leaves $700-$800 dollars for labor. I guess I'm just ignorant to the prices of labor or the amount of time it takes.

I still do appreciate the input 7wolf and you may very well be hearing from me.

    oops

Edit: oh well, I guess I'll use this accidental post just bring everything together.

I would rather stay stock. I don't want to encounter many of the problems that can come along when doing brake upgrades. However, the fact that I can buy completely new rotors and pads for the price of getting new pads and refinishing the rotors seems ridculous.

I would say I could help you with both but I'm no longer in GT. I have done all 4 brakes the clutch and lightweight flywheel myself and they weren't too difficult. As for shops charging labor, most shops in the Augusta area charge anything from $75-$120 with the dealers generally being on the high end of the scale. So the labor charges sound about right.

Right b4 I sold my 03', I bought replacement oem rotors/pads for the front for $125 online and put them on myself. I was going to get the rotors turned but the two places I called wanted $25 each to do it while replacing them was 70. As far as the clutch, dealership time...
