Clutch started slippin.....

Discussion in 'Modifications & DIY how-to' started by wileycoyote0022, May 11, 2009.

  1. I started to feel my clutch slippin about a week ago, but it wasnt that bad. So I started to ease off the car, shifting shorter, and lighter on acceleration. Well now I can put it into a high gear and accelerate and once I get into boost it starts to slip.

    Time for Clutch.

So I wanted some oppinions on clutches. I am staying low tuned for now, maybe stage 2 but nothing more till the car is payed off. I need longevity. Breel recommended http://www.dxdracingclutches.com , ohh and I need cheap too.

I'd check out ACT, or wait a little while for a local vendor to deliver a clutch;)

I would get an ACT or an Exedy. If you plan on making more power anytime in the future, I would just get the ACT and call it a day. Seriously, this is a part you really dont want to skimp on especially with the amount of time/work it takes to swap out your clutch.

  4. I might hit the 250 or 260 power range, but not above that. Not until it is paid off, which one be for another 2 years.

Would there be anything terribly wrong by just replacing it with another OEM clutch?

I replaced mine with the exedy stage 1 clutch which is basically their version of a stock clutch. Except I think it was actually a little nicer and cheaper. Iirc I bought mine off ebay. But its been a few years can't remember how much it was

I like stock clutches... unless your tranny is stronger than stock, the OEM clutch is keeping it from seeing too much. There was a thread about this not too long ago if you want to dig for it.

But what I really wanted to say is that mine will slip in 5th with full boost, so I just don't floor it in fifth. I downshift then floor it. It has been this way for thousands of mines and several atuoXs. I would replace it until it slips in the lower gears or it won't go into gear at all.

Give us a shout when you are ready for the job. We do everything from OEM replacement, to Triple carbon clutches. If you want my recommendation I would spend the extra money from OEM and go with an ACT Street Disc.

We have very competitive pricing and offer tracking numbers same day. We also will discount your labor rate for installation.

    Take care!

Stock level clutch will suit you fine. Excedy stage 1 is cheaper than getting a stock one from the dealer.

Well I would run act if you are going to be doing any aftermarket performance upgrades. Its not terribly expensive. And will last a long time.

I autoX about 8-10 times a year, have moderate/high power, and I use the OEM clutch. It can slip WOT in 5th at slow speeds, but other than that I have no problems. Plus, like I said before, it keeps your OEM tranny happy.

  14. Do you see anything wrong with these guys? http://www.dxdracingclutches.com/

I got a quote from them for $225.00 for OEM replacement, and $35.00 for shipping. I thought it was a pretty good deal.

I've never had to replace my clutch... so I don't know where or how much. LiquidForce (Mike - super nice guy!) will probably chime in on that one.

    Stock works just fine!

I think I would trust an exedy stock replacement before I would get a company not big into making Subaru clutches.

Edit: I just checked south bend clutch and it looks like they are trying to sell you the exedy stock replacement for $225+shipping. Much cheaper on ebay and I am sure a vendor on here can come close to the ebay price.
