Cobb AccesPort Question

I want to run a o2 wideband in conjunction with my Cobb AP. Ive been searching around, and figured Id try and hit up any semi-local experts.

So far from what Ive seen, the Innovate LC-1 kit is one of the best. A guy from Cobb said I can make them them work together if I install the AccessTuner Race program on my AP. Im not an expert, and Im not planning on tuning the car myself, but would it hurt to run the AccessTuner instead of the basing AP program? I will then be able to data log with my laptop (not a huge deal, mainly want to be able to keep up with my AFR).

So really my question is long as I dont mess around with any of the settings (other than adjusting air/fuel IF NEEDED) and keep running the stage 2 I will be good correct?

Hummm sounds like a question for one our pros

Best thing to watch air fuel is just installing a gauge. You can get an innovate gauge like the one I have. I am pretty happy with the set up for my personal car. The lc1 will also work with tuner race and romraider for taking data logs. But for just keeping up with it on a daily basis having a gauge installed is more helpful so that you don't have to haul around a laptop.

i have 2003 WRX that i tuned myself using access tuner race and the LC1 wideband.

i have a gamber johnson removable laptop mount that i use. access port plugs into usb, lc1 plugs into serial port.

with ATR i can monitor a lot of things in real time. atr has a 'dashboard' feature and you can choose which things you want to monitor. for me, the ECU displays of fuel trims is more valuable than AFR on LC1 from a 'gauge' point of view. from a tuning or logging point of view AFR on LC1 is absolutely necessary. but as a in car gauge it is less so.

i also have opensource and tactrix cable. opensource also has a dashboard and some of the realtime gauge displays are better than ATR. once again the fuel trims are more important to me realtime than AFR display.

bottom line, LC1 is a great tuning tool (some sort of wideband is necessary during tuning) and as a logging tool with ATR or opensource. as a gauge, it is less so. what would be cool would be if cobb would integrate the LC1 into the AP so you could use your AP to log everything from the ECU plus the AFR from the LC1. But it doesnt have that capability. opensource, tactrix may have this ability. i think you can somehow plug the LC1 into the tactrix cable end and have it log to its memory.

if i was gonna add a gauge to the LC1 i would get the one from innovate that allows display of any innovate probe. you can daisychain different probes and control which one displays. innovate has AFR, manifold pressure, temperature values (exhaust, water, oil or wherever you want to place probes).

Also be aware that the probe itself can wear out (or so i've heard). i bought two wideband o2 sensors, one is a backup.

doesnt the gauge come with a narrowband o2? and wouldnt that be the same readings I would get from monitoring with the AP (which would not be as accurate as a wideband). I could be wrong, but I think thats what i read

No, you can get the LC-1 in combination with a gauge for pretty cheap and it is in fact a wideband sensor. This is not the little bouncy light air fuel gauge you see on some cars.

The Innovate XD-16 dash-mountable Digital Display ships as an AFR guage, but can also be configured to display any channel of the Modular Tuning System. Key features:

    -2 Bezels + 8 faces = 16 combinations (see below)
-3/4” thick, so it's possible to mount even in surface mount configurations
    -3-character LED display
    -Record/Calibrate/Peak Hold button
-Programmable (values and colors) digital needle
    -Billet Aluminum bezel

    The kit also includes:

    -XD-16 to LM-1 Serial Cable
    -Male 2.5 to 2.5 to connect to LC-1, AuxBox, LM-1, ST-12, or DL-32
    -Terminator Plug
    -Mounting Hardware Kit

While most widebands come with both a 1 volt and a 5 volt output that you could in theory get to work with the factory ecu, its certainly no something I would recommend. Instead I would get something like the XD16 that you can datalog individually and then you can dump both that and the AP logs into a graphing program so that you can see them together.
