I just had a thought... If someone else has the cobb access port for 05 sti, could they simply plug it into my sti and upload their stage one map for me? Or is there something limiting it to one certain car or maybe something else i'm not thinking about...
I think it has to do with the whole "marrying" process that inhibits you to use it on more than one vehicle......
i think right now, protuner is the way to go... the simple fact that u have a hand held map switcher makes it the ideal option
going to look at protuner right now.... sounds interesting. I was hoping to grab a new stock map to gain a little extra performance...
it was cool, when scott was touching up my map i said to him " just as long as i'm safe to drive until you can work me back in." scott said " it doesn't matter, you've got a whole handheld of good maps that you could switch to." and i said..."yeah you're right" that could be one of the best things too, if you are in the middle of a tune and don't feel like finishing it right then, you could always save what you've been working on and then switch to an older map and be good until you wanna re-finish what you were working on. thats what scott and i are doing. but back to the original ?, each handheld AP is "married" (think 16 candles) to a particular car. so no switching and loaning unless you un-marry. thats why its so important that if you buy a used one that it is properly un-married from the previous car. its a simple process. +1 for AP
i think the only thing holding some back from ap is that there was no protuner for a while. soo you used an of the shelf map unless you had street tuner. but now being able to get a protune for your car and mods is awesome. i think ap sales should go up for sure.
ok wiat, i think i'm slightly confuzed... so, you get a cobb ap. before you could only use the existing maps? you couldnt get custom tunes with that ap? but now that there is protuner, you buy that with your cobb ap? and can use it to upload custom tuneings?? can someone explain in a little more detail?
before ther where only maps that you get from cobb for different "stages" of peformance. you could do self tuning if you had street tuner. to be honest though most people are scared to f up thier car if they tune the wrong thing too much so they have a more timid tune than a pro tuner would give you but better than the cobb map. now that theres protuner you can get tuned for the parts you have and around the quirkyness of your individual car.
Yeah I was under the impression that protuning was something that was done on the AP. Like, professional tuners have a protuner and the upload the new maps on the AP? Is this the case?
Yes, prior to a few months ago, the AP only functioned off "Off the Shelf" maps. There was minimal tunability. Ecutek had the advantage here substantially. However, now that Cobb has brought out Pro Tuner, you have off the shelf maps and custom tunes. AP is the choice for most right now.
