At least half of this belongs in this section I am heavily debating on going with AP and a protune to finally have a little bit more power or throwing down on a set of wheels (I have tires) for autox/track so that I do not have to roll around on my all seasons. Ultimately, the wheels will cost more initially (priced at $895 shipped with hubcentric rings) versus the AP ($645) however I have tires that should last me for 6-8 events ($0). The AP will require protuning ($300-400). So we are looking at nearly identical pricing here. Thoughts? Suggestions? Poll's up :sx:
Well, I would vote for tune. Keep in mind though, that you are probably underestimating the improvements from a OTS Stage 2 map for your car. The AP 'generic' maps are well written and will give you a nice performance boost right away; you don't *have* to get ProTuned. But he's got to have the phat pimp rimz, yo
EM.....how much is Scott's protuning price for the AP....Topspeed is $300 right?.....considering doing this momentarily as well...
you already have a set of tires to go on the track wheels, so just get them you can always add power later. I don't see any use in tearing up your new street tires at events. -- Brian
Exactly the problem, with my new found interest to get out on the auto-x, I dont need to be trying to destroy my higher life all seasons :hs:
I vote AP... after what storage did to my last set of wheels, i doubt i'll keep a separate set in the closet unless its perfectly climate controlled
Well, he already has a set of tires that I gave him, that would work great for STU... "shaved" 235/45-17 Yoko ADVAN A046 tires -- Brian
Your fast tells you that you need some bling to put some tires on and take corners really fast. Your fast says those tires Brian gave you will satisfy your fast better than those all season tires will.
Here's another reason to get the wheels. I currently have a nail sticking in my back left tire, which has given me a sudden overnight flat. Well, guess what, it's ok. I have two sets of wheels. So, the stockers go on until the tire gets patched.
Personally I think you will have more fun autoxing than driving around the streets with your increased horsepower. I'm sure you will make more gains in STU with dedicated tires than some extra horsepower. I am little biased to tires, but I do believe I am the only STi in the atlanta area that hasn't gotten tune or doesn't plan to do it in the near future. I don't think my abilities are making the most of my 260 whp, so i figure what's the point of getting a tune. Just my long 2 cents .
She just means that she feels like it would be a better decision to buy the wheels and have dedicated autocross tires, as you will have more fun with this when autocrossing, compared to spending the cash on a tune and autocrossing on his all seasons, which probably wouldn't last too long (or keep him from autocrossing his car all together) We were heading out to dinner, so she rushed the post due to my bothering her to go -- Brian
I was being facetious. Definitely can see the advantage on AutoX'ing, if that's what he's set to do. Personally I'm just a guy who loves power--blame it on having owned a bunch of pony cars in the past. I can appreciate a very well handling and driven automobile, but it's not my top priority.
i love to autoX... but i drive my car more on the roads than on the track... im not very competitive... i mean i try to do my best at every event but i don't mod my car specifically for my autoX class... i put on whatever mods i want and race in the appropriate class (and get whopped around by the others )
