the only thing that got ripped was the COBB decal of my folder on what parts are on my car. The FREE is reality but there is a price to pay if you arent careful or not sure on what one is changing
Wtf. I'm so completely lost in the new development of engine management. Do I have to go through an initiation or something to find out? Is there a secret society that one must join to know what the hell this new method of tuning is? Someone please discuss how the hell you tune your car without AccessPort, EcuTek, Utec, etc. Act as if I know absolutely nothing about it because I've yet to get a good answer. Hell you can even post a link to a website that explains it. Thank you
If you already have an AP, keep it and get street tuner. In addition to the fact that it does a lot of explaining about tuning, it has wideband support, live tuning, graphical representations, etc. For $200 it is worth it if you want to tune yourself. No right of passage, just some cash. If you want to do it cheaper, sell the ap and get the OpenECU software off the net and start playing around...I just like the bells and whistles of the ST software.
ST is definitely nice, more polished and well supported by a large tuner. Going OpenECU route saved me ~$600 though, and I'm a cheap bastard. Besides, graphical representation and manioulation, and logging are in beta releases of enginuity right now. The wideband support is actively worked on, and a few dedicated guys are cracking the realtime nut right now. But it's unsupported by any one company and open source, so it's really a matter of personal preference.
Yup you are 100% right moose, but I am impatient and want things now!! I did not mind forking over the extra $200 for wideband, live tuning and the pretty representations. My father works in software for IBM. I don't mind giving someone some cash for something they worked hard on. While I am a cheap bastard too, (look everywhere for best prices) I still liked to current features of this particular software package.
Im just as cheap if not cheaper I think when im done and will try to get a dyno I willpost my final $/hp and i think im not far off from MOOSE Mosse will the accelorometer provide psuedo HP maybe we can use that as a ref and save me some dyno$. Iam heads up from MOOSE because i got my car slightly used in 2005, so to be fair we should have $/hp w/cost of car or w/o cost of car
Only if you let me remove that "poison pill" from YOUR car or plug up the brach to the boost solenoid - if we line up:wiggle:
Very rich ones right now. If you want to see what I'm using for low det / hi det fueling we can take it offline...
Don't want to hijack this thread, but I am curious what options I have with Street Tuner if I have only stock data inputs. Do I need to buy the wideband stuff, too? DD
Ya can get the LC-1 wideband for a reasonable price compared to other widebands ($200). Once it is set up it is pretty nice. You can also do some modding with it such as smoothing out idle, data logging, etc. But to really tune, wideband is a good idea....some say a necessity.
I don't think there's any question there; the stock narrowband sensor is virtually worthless in the a/f range our cars need when under boost.
