Many thanks to Scott @ SOG and Mike from this board for helping me w/ the Injen Cold Air Intake! Whooshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Yea it's the chit ain't it Milo? I would of kept putting off getting the intake but Mike was quick to meet me @ SOG and persuade me. Can't make i tonight guy's - adios.
i feel like my car got faster... scott says it should add anywhere between 2-5hp but maybe with my existing mods, it just helps everything work better
I was told through many sources to break it in hard. Just not to hit the red line or use the cruise control. Is that right scott I believe u told me this also. Regaurdless Iv'e had my car for a year and Iv'e been driving It hard since the night I bought it. It had 5 miles on it then so driving hard for 10000 miles and not a single problem.
i babied mine... didn't break 5000rpm for first 2000 miles and then didnt break 6000rpm till i hit 6000 miles i still religiously warm up and cool down though ive heard our cars dont really need it
Break it in hard, it will last longer, If you baby it and you try to run it hard after your break-in period. You will have problems in the future. I had a 1983 BMW 320I I bought brand new, I dogged it out for 17 years and the only part that went bad was the water pump after 13 years. I sold it in 2000.
I also do perform religious warm up. My gf and bro always complain whenever they ride with me. haha oh well.... Something that they gotta live with. As long as my engine lasts AT LEAST 100K miles with Stage 2 (if i ever stay that way), then i'm happy.
I heard that from my 1983 BMW 320I, which ran like it was brand new for 17 years until I sold it in 2000. It had 213,000 mile and I drove it hard from day 1 which was in Dec 1982. :slap: Just a little advice. You don't have to take.
I was given the same advice from scott at sog. Break it in hard just don't go over 6000rpms for a while and do not use your cruise control for at least 2000miles. Thats what I did and it runs great. My car stock was beating other stockers all day long. Ask scott about the sti they broke in hard and then put on the dyno.
I was told the same thing, break it in hard, but don't take it to redline and don't use Cruise Control for awhile.
word of advice..dont post anything about a cold air intake on nasioc..you will get ripped a new hole if u do
Yeah, Cold Air Intakes, Turbo Timers and BOVs are all taboo on Nasioc, prepare yourself if you plan on mentioning any of them. They will try to make you :crying:
i have the same exhaust as u do and i have a CAI also with the stock bypass valve... if u wanna ride with me sometime and see what it sounds like, let me know
This is a blerb on a forum i frequent about intakes, it has a sticky about intakes, bovs, boost controllers, and turbo timers. This is what has more or less made me think twice about getting an aftermarket intake..... what do you guys think? Intakes: The Mass Air Flow sensor (measures the amount of air going into the engine) on the WRX is very sensitive. It is designed and calibrated for the diameter of the stock intake piping, the way it's mounted on the piping, and the distance it is from the turbo inlet. Many of the aftermarket intakes for the WRX did not take this into consideration. Some of them have diameters that differ enough from stock to cause serious problems. Even the intakes designed properly for use on the WRX rarely cause gains in power. It is generally accepted that the stock intake doesn't start to become a restriction until 300 hp and I personally think it's higher than that. High enough that with the stock turbo it's impossible to make enough power for the intake to become a restriction. With the silencer removed, the intake is pretty darn similar to an open, short-ram style intake, and if you have a properly designed aftermarket intake the tubing is the exact same diameter as stock anyway... so where's the restriction coming from? Many intakes lean out the air/fuel mixture, which can be good for a couple ponies on a car with no tuning. Once tuned though for either the stocker or an aftermarket one, I don't think a difference would be seen. The intake most well-known to cause problems is the AEM (short ram or CAI, doesn't matter). Not only does it cause the MAF reading to be off, but it causes irradic readings that make it IMPOSSIBLE to tune for. No tuner (Vishnu, Cobb, TurboXS, etc) will even touch a car with an AEM intake on it, period. Best bet? Put the money somewhere beneficial!
I know that Scott and John Data Logged the MRT? and another intake and didn't really see any problems. From What Scott told me the APS and Injen are the only two that are good for our cars, well, not good, but not bad either.
The mind likes to play tricks with your senses. Louder ususally makes you think faster. I would be curious to know how much of a difference that intake really made. Though the only way to really find out would be to dyno with the CAI and then with the stock airbox. I guess we will never really know.
thats what scott said... but he also said that's for a stock car... with the supporting mods, the intake makes it SOOO much better when the turbo is pumping air at 19+ psi and heat is ur biggest enemy
i have the same exhaust as u do and i have a CAI also with the stock bypass valve... if u wanna ride with me sometime and see what it sounds like, let me know i would like to ride in yours sometime and hear how it sounds on the inside, can you still talk on the phone and hear the radio when you are on the gas? I had a turbo miata with 3in piping and exhaust and couldnt really even hear the radio. Are you going to be at the install day on sunday?
How much did you guys pay for your intakes at SOG? I may go get one of those and save up for a nicer exhaust later on. Also probably bite the bullet and get the short shifter too...
Exhaust = very expensive: I really just want the cool sound at this point to make the car "new" to me again...I already have the STi exhaust on there, so I can't imagine the performance increase of an aftermarket exhuast to be all that large...
you are right about the cost..an exhaust it is a bit more expensive..gains with a cai are approximately 2-5hp versus 7-10hp with a catback..both are equally exciting..the intake sounds really good but i would have to say i enjoy the sound of the exhaust much more..i felt a bigger difference in power when i put my catback on versus putting my intake on but both are good mods
Im prob. gonna get the blitz sus or the godspeed sus at some point once I have all my engine and exhaust work "final"
Scott, why not get up or downpipes instead of catback. Like you said you already have an STi takeoff. Gut your uppipe, but an aftermarket downpipe. You will be really happy. Won't make much of a difference with sound, aside from hearing your turbo clearer, but you will feel noticable gains.
You'll hear your turbo like crazy if you put in a new dp, you'll be in love all over again. And by final I mean, when I am done spending money on my car in this stretch... Which reminds me, I need to call the tint guy.
i didnt know you did not have a downpipe...scott get a downpipe..that is the best bang for buck for you !!
