I saw on the news the other day that there was a lot of construction going on around the 85N/316 split, is any of that going to effect getting off on the Boggs Rd exit to get to SoG?
you could just take 85N and get off at pleasant hill, hang a left go to satellite blvd, hang a right SoG will be way down on the right. (after all the mall and dealershits)
better yet, take steve rynolds exit 103, left at light and go until you get to satellite, right on satellite and straight on till SoG
that's right i always forget that exit...which is funny because when i first moved down here there was a sign saying 85 North near what i later found out to be the OFF ramp for 85N. wall of oncoming cars, me spinning the car 180 and running for dear life ect.... def take that one.
if your coming up north you wont run into more traffic than the usual on fridays, if your coming south definately prepare for some crazy traffic. i go to school that way every other day so i see it a lot, and im not positive if the ramp onto boggs is open or not. taking steve reynolds like mentioned above would probably be the quickest route but there are a lot of lights.
^^^^Correct, the ramp from Boggs to 85SB is closed...... They will also be shutting down lanes periodically on 85NB and SB for the next 5-7 years..... Enjoy!
Oh it doesn't stop there, just wait...... They're gonna be working on Pleasant Hill and Buford Hwy at the same time, making Pleasant Hill go either over or under the railroad tracks. And they'll be starting the median project on Stone Mountain Hwy sometime later this year or the beginning of next year. And God only knows what they're gonna do with 316..... either make it a toll road or a full controlled-access highway, or maybe both..... Your tax dollars at work!
i thought they were planning at some point to make 316 go under the intersections to reduce the accidents there. the toll thing's a fucking joke... but the other stuff is needed. i dunno how they can cry 'po muthafucka' when counties in ga are still growing at some of the highest rates in the country. porkbarrel bullshit.
Ugh, they're going to start mutilating Hwy 78? I know they were talking about it for a looooong time... And all that because of people not understanding green arrow = drive there, yellow twisty arrows = don't drive there.
I am SO glad that I read this post today. I would've straight up flipped the fawk out if I had found this out en route.... ....or may I woulda just been kind of mad. But I'm still glad I know ahead of time.
And as an FYI for those of you who live or travel in and around Gwinnett..... Beginning last week the speed limit on 316 from Sugarloaf to 85 has been lowered to 45 mph...... possibly because people have been largely disregarding the warning signs about the road work in that area. The new speed limit will be in effect 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, for the next 3 yrs. There is also an ongoing traffic detail on 85 between Pleasant Hill and 316..... officers have not only been sitting to the side of the road with their lights on, they have been pulling onto the interstate to pace down traffic as well. Keep all this in mind if you're in a hurry to get someplace..... traffic will likely be bad, and fines (because the whole area is a work zone, whether workers are present or not) will be high. Not completely without reason however..... IIRC (but don't quote me on it), in 2002 or 2004, GA DOT reported 50+ worker deaths due to traffic accidents on work sites...... Drive safely
dang man i hate gwinnett so crowded! glad i wont be living around here much longer. thanks for the info though even though 45 seems way to slow.
^^^I agree, but I think that they're trying to slow the idiots down that fly around the ramp from 316 to 85SB. I've almost been sideswiped in my patrol car cuz people are going too fast around the curve and don't pay attention to the signs that say that the left lane ends.
