Cooling questions for a newcomer

Discussion in 'Modifications & DIY how-to' started by SilverBullet2.5, Jun 17, 2008.

  1. I bought my car on the 5th of June. The past two days 6/16-6/17......i have been having issues maintaining a good reading on my temp guage, (isnt it supposed to be between the two middle white lines and closer to the bottom one?) Well, my engine temperature is going right above the top-middle line, so its not in the red, but its about that second line (hope someone knows what i mean) also ive noticed that my coolant is lower each time i have checked it and even after adding more on two seperate occasions. I may also note that i do not see anything under the car after letting it sit and i might just be paranoid but i think i can faintly smell coolant upon exiting the vehicle.......i may just see if the dealership (jim ellis mazda) has any type of short term warranty for vehicle purchases, i havent even had the car two weeks.

ya check with the dealer, post pics of the gauge so everyone can see what your talking about.

sounds like ur burning coolant instead of it leaking. could be blown head gasket

  3. Is a blown head gasket a common thing for subaru's? How complicated is that to fix, cause the last time i heard those words, it was a 88 Nissan Stanza and it was like a 2+ day break down.

nicad Yes I am a troll

for the newer N/A cars, it isn't as common as it was. compression test will tell a lot

  5. Do dealerships usually have any type of short term warranty even if there is no longer a factory warranty on the vehicle?

  6. Hopefully this image worked. Its not my actual guage, its an sti gauge but same deal. I drew a green arrow to the area where my needle goes to. Its usually driving from Atlanta to Covington on freeway, around 3 or 6 (times i leave work), sometimes with the a/c at 1 or 2. When i slow down it goes back to between the two lines in the middle. But i check coolant and its low.[IMG]

im not sure about georgia but in ohio we have a lemon law that says the dealer has to warantee the car for 30 days after purchase. you could check, and if not get a compression test done

  9. I thought this problem had gone away and its really starting to frustrate me....i checked the radiator to make sure it was full, and filled the reserve tank or whatever, and ive checked the last couple times ive gotten gas, and its still right where it should be. However, even with the a/c off, the temp fluctuates alot, especially on freeway.....and it seems to not even have to be extremely hot outside, but once i get on an exit ramp it begins to decrease. Other than a coolant flush which im going to look into.....could this have anything to do with the thermostat?
