Went from Tein Flex with 8K springs to Tokico D-Specs with RCE Blacks springs. Man the car handles better, feels betters, rides smooth as butta, and everything else. You can't go wrong with this setup for comfort, performance, and a happy wife/significant other. With the Teins my back would hurt, my kidneys cursed me, and the wifey's bewbies hated me. Now the bewbies, back, and kidneys are very very happy. And because the bewbies are happy, Delette is very happy as well :naughty::rofl::ddirty::wiggle:
Congrats... lol at the comments about your wife.. everytime we hit a bump in my car, my gf clutches the twins and says "I hate your car!"...
Last week I just installed the dspecs also and at 4 full turns from full hard on the rear and 3 in front the ride is great. Firm but nowwhere near punishing
Good review. Its silly how many people DD on coilovers that will see very few track events and are very unsuited to street driving.
Teins suck. They just don't have enough travel for use on anything other than a track. New setup sounds nice. I'm leaning toward Konis and pinks, but I'm going to keep this in mind.
Yeah the Teins I couldn't push the car on the off ramp near work because the wheel would come off the ground and I would proceed to drift the car. Today I took this off ramp and was able to go WOT half way out the turn and hold the car WOT. I topped out third before I knew it and was like WOAH THIS SUSPENSION ROCKS!
I just put on some koni's with my pinks. I can't say how they compare with Tokico's, but if you are going to be at the Test n Tune, you can get a ride and see what they feel like.
Post pics. I would like to see what the stance looks like, just curious. I came from a Tein Super Street set up and now I am riding on RCE yellows paired up with konis and I feel like the ride is a tiny bit on the bouncy side. I am wonder though if it is because the konis are very used, they could be worn out.
As I remember, your koni's had a bunch of miles on them, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were worn out.
IIRC, The RCE blacks don't drop the car as much as the RCE yellows. They call the blacks "the regular guy" option. Also IIRC, they(the blacks) drop 10-15mm from stock.
The blacks dropped more in the rear than I thought they would. I'm glad I didn't do the yellows.....my tires would be hitting the fenders. I've got to remember to take pics.....I'm so freaking tired when I get home.
I went from Koni Yellows with stock USDM STI springs. I had that setup for years, DD and Autocros. The spring rate was a little to soft for serious competition. I swapped them for Tein Flex's and it was a brutal difference but the car was no longer my DD so it didn't mater. That setup was STIFF at autocross, barely and bodyroll or brake dive but the inside rear tire lift was so bad I had to disconnect my rear bar. Ironically, the car handled like stock set up like that :-/
Thanks. It'll look even better when I get my EDM lip and stock bumper on with the new JDM fogs I got. Trading useless OEM parts for nicer upgrades FTW
That car is looking straight! I was going to do the same set up but SS talked me into the BC/c,o's so we'll see how those turn out!
