So my exhaust came loose and is bangin and rattling... Where is a place in the ellenwood/jboro area I can get it fixed this afternoon without getting assraped on the cost? Money is kinda tight right now, and while I want good work done, I need to spend as little as possible right now. Suggestions?
Find out exactly what is loose. If it is just a bolt/nut, go to home depot and buy new ones. If it is a hanger that broke off, it would probably only cost like $20-$40 at any muffler shop.
Not terribly familiar with cars as far as fixing them, and I still havent had my tools shipped down, so I cant do squat...
Most local exhaust shops have a minimum of around 50 bucks. So expect to pay at least that if that's all it is.
that depends on the job. I paid $40 to spot weld a couple holes in the old exhaust manifold. This was at Merlin Muffler. They do good work
I don't know about most shops. I've gone to 3 and they didn't charge me $50. The midas on roswell rd even did it for some beer
Well Bad_Additude has learned what not to do with a Subaru. Broken exhaust hanger turned out to be a broken stock sway bar mount, now welded back together till Whitelines are ordered and mounted. Broken bolt that mounts bracket to frame rail along with broken welds that hold the nut inside the frame rail, repaired. Sounds bad but quite easy of a repair, take a small drill bit 1/16th to 3/32nd diameter and drill three holes around the bolt hole. Place the original nut or flange nut on the back side of hole, run a longer bolt into the nut. The bolt will give you something to hold the nut into place, then take your MIG welder or TIG torch and plug weld the nut using the three holes you drilled out. When done just smooth out the surface and it will look like a factory spot weld just stronger. Next problem was tensioner pulley for AC is trashed and will need to be replaced as well as his starter is near death. Thought poor John was going to have a panic attack with his issues but these are all simple repairs, all that's required is money, proper tools, and the time. Oh, and beer, lots of beer.
Thank you. Makes up for all the stupid shit in my past IMO, and if your at the dyno day we can talk powder.
Gotta say that Brian is one of the most helpful, generous guys Ive met. He started with what he thought was going to be a simple welding job, and ended up working on my car for the better part of 6 hours. If that werent enough, hes also going to help me get the rest of it squared away. I cant say enough good things about this guy.
