Any time you are using a oiled filter, lol. In all honesty, the manufacturers of the MAF sensors don't recommend it...they recommend replacing the unit if you start having any trouble. But I have done it on several vehicles now with decent results. I had a Mustang that was having some idle problems. Cleaned the MAF and they were mostly solved. Ran the BG fuel injection service and it ran better than new.
Hmm I guess my sensor was not having any issues...runs about the same now, lol. But I figured I might as well since I am running an oiled filter as well.
i can be reasonably sure having it caked with gunk (which mine was) would shorten the lifespan of the part anyways. Like I said, can't speak on the HP claims they make, but it cleaned it good, and without residue...
