I just noticed the front outer CV boot on my Outback is ripped and spraying grease all over my fork. I've done this replacement on a Hondas in the past, how hard is it in this car? Any special tools or parts I will need besides the boot? Would it be terrible if I used a Quick Boot instead of the spec boot?
You will be better off just getting a reman. The last I checked they had them for liks $60 for the LGT Front. It will save you a lot of time just swapping axles out.
I agree, I had to to the same thing on my gf's 97 L. Not too hard to just replace the whole axle, not too expensive either. I think you would have to remove the axle just to get at the boot anyway, so basically its more work to just replace the boot.
Okay. I didn't expect the axles to be so cheap. I will go that way instead. I am hearing stories of some roll pin that can be a pain?
^^^ And they are $$$, at least for the STi axle. I went to Advance Auto Parts and they had an STi axle for $74. Worked perfectly. I was amazed they actually had it in stock since the shop I called said their sources were out and I'd have to go with an OEM axle. My guess is that they did have access to a reman and was charging me for the New Subaru part. ssh:
