SS told me if i ran across something like this again to buy a few for everyone.. well, i'm poor, so I wont. But Sams' Club on 41 just south of the mighty rooster has a bunch of 500watt power inverters for $24...
man i need one but dont know how many watts i need. i need it to run an xbox and laptop. is 500w enough?
typical laptops suck about 90-120w, x-boxs i know are significantly more, somewhere in the 200s. Make sure those 500w inverters are 500w RMS not peak. If it's peak, you'll blow the fuse real quick running both of those. I'm running a 400w RMS in my car and it runs my laptop and LCD screen fine even with the 20% or so power loss of the DC-AC-DC conversion.
cool thanks ramblin. so i should really look for something with more than 500w if i eventually want to use it to do the tailgating thing with dss and tv and such. but 500 would work for the xbox and laptop. might just get a few of them. im already looking at a high output alternater to feed the eletrical system.
these are peak 1000 watt, w/battery saver shutoff, seperate fuses for each plug, and heavy duty permanent connection posts (as well as the lighter socket)
i saw those 1000 watts once.. they were peak but the real power to it was abt 580 rms to near it... they were abt 100 dollers + tax each
