For information, pictures, questions and prices about the tinting G2G, check out [thread=19575]this thread[/thread].

I've sent PMs to everyone who expressed interest in tinting! If you didn't get one, PM me and it won't be no thang.

Dean has set a limit of 4 4-door cars per day in order to keep quality high, which I can certainly get behind! I've confirmed that both the 21st and 28th are available at Batlground and Dean will be there. Each car takes approximately two hours, so we're going to try and get people arranged in time slots starting at 10 AM, 1 PM, 3 PM, and 5 PM. Please PM me to confirm and let me know which date/time you want, what type of tint, and what type of car you have! There are 8 slots in total, and they're first-come, first-served, so if you want on the list, let me know ASAP.

    Confirmed:
    21st Cancelled!

    28th at...
    10 AM - blindfold (Ceramic, 04 STi)
    01 PM - pankopp (Ceramic, 04 VW R32)
    03 PM - 07Ltd#767 (Ceramic, STi)
05 PM - cleanmachine (Ceramic or full metal, 05 WRX)

That would be a tough day... 2 full Wagons and 3 Sedan's? Not sure I can get that all done in a day's work without rushing through it all.

No worries, I was just trying to make things easier, not harder, we shall keep it the way it is.

I would like to grab the last slot on the weekend of the 28th, but I'm not sure which tint would look best...I have a UGM STi, and after looking at the pictures from the original 9-page thread, I'm still undecided....what would you guys recommend?

Ok, the 28th is booked out (I do however accept bribes to squeeze in one more car! hehe)

Anyone up for this weekend? Hmmmmmm?

Got some tint for ya... ice cold tint. Who wants some tint? Get your tint, right here!

Just a heads up for anyone coming on the 28th... I do not have anything darker than the legal limit for your vehicle. So if you're hoping to get anything darker than 35%, I won't have it.

is it possible to get anything that's darker by then, 35% is way too light

Not in Georgia. It's illegal to drive a (GA-registered) car on GA public roadways with tint that's any darker than 35% ±3%, or to install tint that's any darker.

GA state law requires that all passenger vehicles (think standard passenger cars) have 32% or lighter film on all windows. This includes station wagons.

Anything that is built on a truck chassis and is for "occasional off road use" allows you to have your back windows as dark as you'd like (in other words, you can spray paint them) but the 2 front roll-ups must be 32% or lighter.

Those are all 35%. I do not do cars illegally. While the driver may only get a $75 ticket, if they find out I did it, I get slapped with a very hefty fine that's in the thousands. It's not worth it for me to tint anyone's car illegally.

The outside appearance will vary on any darkness of tint. If the interior of your car is a light color such as white or tan, film will tend to look very light. However, if you have a darker interior such as brown or black, the film will tend to look very dark.

35% is ideal, in my honest opinion. It gives the car a nice classy look while giving you the benefits of heat and glare reduction. When you start getting into the 20% and 5% films, you start looking like a little punk kid that thinks he's super tough by having dark windows because he wants everyone to know (including cops) that he's quite possibly doing something illegal behind them when in actuality he's just a suburban white kid that had his mom pick out his clothes for him before he left the house. Just my opinion... :wiggle:

Because you went to a hack that doesn't care about breaking the law and could possibly afford a $1,500 fine if he gets caught. :naughty:

    well the law keeps changing...

  25. deanjones

    deanjones Member

Not really... The law changed for a very short period a few years back. At one point they allowed it to be darker on passenger vehicles and then the law for 32% was placed back on the books. However, this was back in 2002 (if I recall correctly) and it was very short lived.

Also, I have no clue what SOG is...

    Sorry man... you're screwed.

Just kidding. We can work something out here... It seems like some people are becoming disinterested for the 28th due to me not allowing illegal film to be installed, so you may be able to snag a place due to that. Otherwise, we'll work something out to get you squeezed in or we can work something out to append an extra day.

Let me think over what we can do and see how the schedule pans out over the next 2 days and we'll get you worked in somehow.

FYI on people wanting illegal film done

If anyone schedule up for this Saturday really, really wants illegal film done, I can make two suggestions:

    1) Call around town. There are plenty of shops in GA that are willing to do this type of thing. I do not mind if you decide not to come on Saturday, I fully understand. Get what you want to get for your car. Just call around to different shops. I'd suggest some shady shops as they're usually the ones hurting for money the most and are willing to do illegal work.

However, be prepared to not get a receipt, not get a warranty and to get really crappy work. Trust me... while not all shops give crappy work on illegal jobs, I worked in the shady shops back in my days and we always did less than good work on the illegal jobs. Why? Because we got paid in cash, we provided no receipt and no warranty. We also told the buyer that upon leaving our lot, he could not come back for any warranty work on the car at all. So we could slam those cars out quickly and not worry about it.

Why? Because if they came back to our shop with their car that had illegal film on it for any warranty work and we accepted it without making them pay, that proves that we were responsible for the work at hand and if that person was trying to prove it was us that did it, that's the best way to prove it... by bringing it back and saying "Hey man, can you fix this window you did? There's some dirt in it." If we said anything other than "Sorry man, I didn't do this car. Can you show me a receipt?" we could get busted.

Again, not all film dealers that provide illegal film jobs are this shady, but the smart ones are.

    2) If you have an eye or skin condition that reacts to direct light, you can get a note from your Dr describing why you need darker than the legal limit. However, this note has to be confirmed through the state before I can do the job and I have to have a copy of the letter along with any state documents before I can do the job.

Oh, also... please note that if you have illegal film on your car and if the film has a manufacturers warranty on it, that warranty through the manufacturer is also completely void.

So, honestly, getting your windows tinted beyond legal specs is just dumb. It makes no sense financially or legally. All you get is possibly the feeling of being "cool" cause you're "breaking the law" or whatever... I don't know, I don't get it myself...

Nah... I never did dealerships at all. I learned my lesson with working with dealerships by working at various tint shops in GA. You have to hound them to pay you, they want dirt cheap pricing and they'll screw you over any chance they get. So, it wasn't me that did your car if you got it done through a dealership.

Also, the only illegal tint job I have done is on a friend of mines car. He had a Dr.'s note due to an eye condition.

On that note, if you do get a letter for your Dr. and get it pre-confirmed through the state before coming to me, I can do your car illegally... Other than that, no can do.

Also, if you do have a Dr's note that is confirmed through the state, all I have in darker film is 5% (limo film) and I only have it in a 20 inch roll... which means it probably won't cover your rear window completely, which means I'd have to seam the rear window, which looks ugly.

Wow, the week after i got my tint... 20%... it had bubbles in it...
i went back to 'the place' and had it redone..

I guess i was just misinformed..

  31. deanjones

    deanjones Member

Like I said, not all places are like that. However, if I did your car illegally I would have never accepted you coming back. Who's to say you didn't get pulled over the day before and you were trying to set me up somehow to show the court that I did the work and you weren't responsible for it?

I just play it smart, I guess. However, I avoid all of this by not doing cars illegally to being with. :)

Question: Does anyone want Platinum Plus instead of ceramic? Platinum Plus gives you a little bit more of a reflective metallic or neutral look instead of a matte look. I have PLENTY of Platinum Plus and it gives 20% better heat rejection.

Let me know if anyone would rather have this instead of ceramic. I'm trying to get my inventory in line in the next 2 days.

    Thanks!

Biggs, let's just throw you into a 6:30 PM Slot if we can. However, try to show up around 5 PM just in case I get a bug up my ass and I'm pushing out cars much faster.

TheNewWazoo (forgot your real name), is that doable? Is Battleground going to be available up until 8 PM on this day?

Man, I'm going to be so burnt out after this day. haha

Sorry man... If you have a garage for me to tint in I can come to you on the 12th and hook you up.

No. haha! You're trying your hardest to get in an earlier position aren't you?

I'd say show up early if you want to. Maybe someone will be late and we can start on your car earlier. I mean, this day is not only so you guys can get a cheap tint job, but spend time together as a group and such... So enjoy the day.

Unfortunately I don't. The photo's of the cars in the original post on this page all have Axcess on them. The reason I have so much Platinum Plus is because people didn't like the metallic look of it. So it's really a big personal preferences. I'd say for every 30 cars I did in Axcess or High Performance, I did 1 in Platinum Plus.

The best way I can describe it is it's a neutral tone. In other words, it takes on the color of the car a tad. On Red and Silver cars the film looks very metallic. Black it looks a little less metallic and more of a shiny smoke like color on Yellow it's more neutral toned.

Here is how it looks on a grey car... You can see how it sort of soaks up the color of the car a tad...

I would like to give a big thanks to Matt (all of us should thank him, really) at Battleground for providing us a place to get the job done. Sorry we kept you so long. Also thanks to Brandon for stepping up and organizing it all. Also, thanks to Alex for getting me some forum time to organize the event.
