Im reserving this for later this week, but Ill cover what I needed in order to install the Defi boost, egt (including tapping the header) and oil pressure. The tools required and such are not Defi specific, however any tapping or threadding is specific to the units the gauges read in (generally metric is NPT, english standard is bsnpt). For the boost gauge I simply re-used the line from the OEM lamco gauge and tucked the sender away under the dash. For the egt gauge I plan to tap the header right where the weld spot deal is...will need the following 7/8" hole saw (for heat shield) 1/8NPT tap (for exhaust manifold) NOTE: this 1/8 is NOT 1/8" (at least outer diameter is not 1/8") T-handle to turn the tap (for exhaust manifold) 21/64" drill bit (for exhaust manifold) As for the oil pressure I have every intention of using the gallery plug, as far as Ive read this plug will not fit the Defi EGT (may be just the imperial one). Many people have asked whether or not you could tap oil pressure and oil temp into this location, and it appears there isnt enough room to fit a brass T. The common solution is to put the oil pressure in the gallery plug and the oil temp where the stock oil pressure sensor is (beneath the alternator). oil galley plug (part #11024AA210) washer for the oil galley plug (part #037018200) 8mm hex 14mm crows foot 10" extension Updates soon hopefully, as Im tired of seeing the EGT and Oil Pressure warn me that there's nothing there
Alex, I picked up an EGT gauge fairly recently and will replace my Air/Fuel with it. This is helpful info...Thanks.....I got the Glowshift one. I wanted everything to match and I heard that an EGT is a great gauge to have over a Air/Fuel unless you get the wideband. I was told that the # 3 manifold was better than 4 because of the location, etc. Is 4 the way to go?. Mark
SMC did some nice testing for us with a 4 channel EGT setup. This thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=529496 If you guys read the thread further...there are some other very interesting results that SMC posts up about exhaust setups and changes in EGT...
Did you finish reading that entire thread Will? I didnt finish it, what was the outcome of the flow testing?
Alex, you forgot to provide how much horsepowers these gauges give.... Seriously good looking gauges though.
Schwing! Just hit up Mieneke and SS Customer Muffler down the street to try and track down 2 plugs to plug Jl889's header so that I can remove his EGT sensor As a precaution I was able to (miraculously) find a npt and bsnpt plug!
Had a chance to install the oil pressure sensor last weekend, its nice being able to monitor the pressure. Im curious now if I switch oils how its going to respond (higher or lower pressure based on weight?). At a recent "Tuner Night" I had the pleasure of talking with a Royal Purple sales rep. He demonstrated a fairly interesting test with their oil and a couple other major manufacturers (mobile 1, genuine honda, ams oil, etc) and I was amazed to see the purple doing exactly what they sell it as. The test was extremely straightforward. There was an alternator with a multimeter (to show load) attached to it. The pulley / wheel for the alternator was mounted through a block of alumn. On top of the wheel was a bearing that was attached to an arm where weight could be placed. When weight was added, the bearing was forced further down on top of the spinning wheel. Im sure you can see where this is going...Underneath the wheel is a small reservoir for oil. Oil was poured in there (from each brand) and the alternator was turned on. Immediately you were able to see the impact of weight and how well that brand of oil held up to it. Mobile 1 5w30 stopped at 4 out 5 weights Royal Purple was added to the Mobile 1 to "salvage" the bearing and actually polish the scar on the bearing and keep it running. Royal Purple 5w30 took all 5 weights plus weight from the sales rep pushing down on the arm Needless to say I'll be trying out a case of 10w30 or so next oil change. Makes me wish I had oil temp gauge instead of EGT  --- On to the pics! Extension + 8mm hex to remove OEM gallery plug Extension + 17mm socket to remove OEM plug OEM plug on left, Defi sensor in the middle and OEM gallery sensor on right I used my magnetic wand to actually place the OEM gallery sensor, and then a 17mm socket + extension to screw it in Now maybe Im just not that good, but I wasnt able to thread the defi sensor into the plug with the TMIC still on. With it removed it was substantially easier and I had the help of Ankur's magical fingers... Used a crows foot to tighten it down Plug it in, ran through passenger side firewall grommet into controller (mounted in glove box) 3 piggies at home
ATTN: BrianGT and Alex- You two suck. Stop posting pictures and talking about your super sexy and ridiculously expensive gauges that I want oh so badly. I don't even have a whimpy factory boost gauge in my car...
what?! "i hate milo, alex, and Master Jedi keith...., Matt too." You don't hate me??? I'll just have to try harder...
