Diff staying in lock?

    I have an 06 STi

at low speeds even when I am in open the diff locks. The clunking is really really bothersome/irritating. Awhile back the car threw a NPS code, so I replaced the neutral position sensor, the code hasn't returned, but, the diff is still pretty much staying in lock. I have checked my fluids and they all look pristine as they did when I put them in. I also only use Subaru Gear Oil and Rear Diff Fluid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are the ABS lines properly torqued?

i assume so, I haven't touched em, would that cause the diff to stay in lock even when in Open?

Sounds like the center diff could be binding up. Time for a new center diff.

If you can put the center diff in any selsection lock to open and it still binds then most likely you have fried your center diff.

Likely causes are different circumferances in your tires or you have been pulling your e brake.

i don't need no stinking ebrake to drift it...

tires are same size all around... also if its the center diff wouldn't it make sense for the trans fluid to ave shiny pieces in it?

I could have metal flakes in it or not, depends on how bad it is. Doesnt matter iF tires are stamped with the same size, that doesnt mean they are the same size. Take a measuring tape and measure the circumferance of each tire. They all need to be within 1/4 inch in circumferance if not the center diff will get messed up.

and just because you dont need to use the e-brake to drift doesnt mean you dont

Since you asked, loose ABS lines will cause the center diff to wig out. Although, this is more than likely not the cause of your problem.

interesting... and since you guys don't know me, I don't drift... Grip pwns

    on that note

is there a way to check the diff without removing the trans? I am lucky enough to have access to a lift, I will also check the abs lines...

i think there's a drain pan right underneath it. not 100% on the 6spds. but i remember Will saying when he took the drain pan off my old 5spd chunks just fell out and he could see where the front diff USED to be. but thats the front diff. i assume there would be a similar one for the center diff. i dn

ok update, the diff is fine, so i am thinking it may be the harness controlling it, the car is also throwing a neutral position sensor code, even though i replaced the NPS. Anyone know anything that could have caused issues with both sensors?

Oddly enough now when I put it in manual override it stays that way, no locking.

also does anyone know the resistance that the harness should have?

nicad Yes I am a troll

    "i think", "not 100%", "i remember", "i assume", "i don't know"

if you have no idea why reply?

you can't get a visual inspection without pulling the transmission. there are two drain plugs, one on the gear side and one on the clutch housing side. there is also a small pan you can pull (it has a magnet) and check for wear particles
