Hey is that plank you cooked the salmon on cedar?

Ted's Montana Grill has a cedar cooked salmon item on their menu, and they offer an asparagus side offering that's roasted on cedar too. I haven't had the salmon there but I'd recommend the asparagus side. It was suprisingly good.

Yep, cedar. You can use alder too with good results. As for purchasing it, you can either get the $5/piece stuff at the grocery store or pick up some untreated cedar at home depot. :)

Asparagus is excellent as a side, though you end up with SAPS for a day or so...

alder interesting, I'll give that a shot.

many simple tools or items sold at hardware stores work better than that some of the high priced stuff over at Williams Sonoma in the kitchen.

I made cedar plank Salmon in the oven once, turned out pretty nice, just have to make sure the plank is wet and doesn't catch on fire...I used a broiler pan and lined it with pineapple and peach juices and peices...I would think that a grill would be the ideal environment though...

looks like a nice curry dish, indian, thai, or what?

actually reminds me of vindaloo, but the curry is usually red for that dish.

18. moose

moose Infina Mooooooose!

Ohhhhh, vindaloo.

I made some bastard vindaloo the other day with shrimp and onions sauteed and then mixed up with some store bought vindaloo paste. Tasty. :)

bombay grill has some pretty hot vindaloo... i think the best way to have it is with mutton (goat meat)... man i miss eating mutton... whenever my mom is in town, she buys a lot of it from this store off briarcliff and cooks for me :tasty:

23. monk

monk The Kitchen Ninja!!!!

i certainly wouldn't mind trying the goat, but i thought mutton was sheep (greeks eat a LOT of mutton)?

24. miloman

miloman Retired Admin

i guess it could be called by different names in different parts... in bombay, as far as i know, goat meat is mutton and sheep meat is called lamb...

25. monk

monk The Kitchen Ninja!!!!

so where is this bombay grill?

its on an access road right off 285 near peachtree industrial

2165 SAVOY DRIVE
CHAMBLEE, GEORGIA 30341
TEL:(678) 530-9555

the usually have a lunch buffet... if u go there, i would highly recommend 'chicken 65' (no jokes please :D) as an appetizer and the vindaloo... i dont think they have goat but they have lamb

Everybody I've served this to has enjoyed it...

4 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups plain yogurt (I like the stonybrook/stonyfield brand, all natural whole milk)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder

Mix together dry ingredients and stir/knead in the yogurt. Keep kneading (like you would bread dough) on a floured board until it's smooth and elastic-y. Roll into a ball and put in a greased bowl and cover up. Leave out at room temp for an hour.

Divide dough into ~10 pieces (depending on the size you want). Roll into balls and push into discs (I use a rolling pin since I'm a cheater).

Now here's the cool piece...

Take a seasoned cast iron pan (or a very good quality non-stick pan) and heat up over medium heat. Maybe medium-high depending on your range. While it's warming up (give it 5+ mins for cast iron) set your oven broiler to on, and stick one of the racks 4-5" below the broiler.

Put your disc in the cast iron pan for 3-5 mins. It'll puff up a bit and bubble a little, and you'll get some dark spots on the bottom. This is good. Now move it to the oven under the broiler for another minute or two. It'll puff up nicely and get some more dark spots and coloring... take out of oven, enjoy.

Chicken 65 is amazingly tasty. :)

I've actually never eaten at Bombay Grill. My parents said it's really good, but for some reason my entire family is obsessed with Zyka. Their naans are really good but not filling at all.

im from bombay and i have eaten at both zyka and bombay grill:

zyka:
1677 SCOTT BLVD,
DECATUR, GA 30033
TEL (404) 728-4444

good but has a 'fast food style' to it... its tasty but not very authentic to me... no alcohol

bombay grill:
2165 SAVOY DRIVE
CHAMBLEE, GEORGIA 30341
TEL (678) 530-9555

i believe its run by a sikh family from delhi... the food there tastes like its from an authentic indian restaurant in bombay... very rich and tasty... prepare to pass out after u eat there... also have a fully stocked bar... but do try the indian beer (kingfisher :tasty:)

I'm going to try one of those places soon. the last time i had indian food it was just HOT no flavour every dish tasted the same HOT no difference in taste from different plates with different food just HOT. I actually had to drink water with my food. my friend had some stuff that tasted like sour milk that actually was sour but when she got a fresh cup it still tasted sour carnation milk. needless to say I have never had indian food again because I thought it all tasted like that. my friend told me later that it was supposed to have flavour to it.

The last time I had Indian it was at a buffet off of Mansell that had Tandoori chicken that was mostly bone and gristle, the other items were disappointing too. Thanks for the recommendations on where to get good chicken 65.

buy fresh naan's at indian stores in decatur or get ready made naan's at sabri in decatur.

best chicken 65 i think is made by my mom.. it's hydrabadi style which is close to bombay.. and chicken birjani hydrabadi style it's great.. zikya has it but i like my mom's hand better..
i think bombay grill is a good place.. only been there once...
i'm also from india.. and know alot of indian places around atlanta
bamboo gardens, mirch masala, sabri, bombay grill, madras cafe, madras savana bahvan.. etc etc etc

Sabri House closed down and Mirch Masala is gross; people from my family have gotten sick from Mirch Masala's food.

Madras Sarvana Bhavan (sp?) makes dosas that are WAY too greasy.
