do i need a bigger exhaust?

ok, i currently have the sti up, 3" helix catless dp, stock midpipe, and then finally the sti axle-back. the reason for this set-up was because i wanted maximum performance from the least amount of money spent.. but nowadays i`m starting to wonder if the 2.5" tapering is hurting the performance, and maybe, since i`m planning on getting tuned, i should look into getting a 3" or larger catback exhaust?

i like my sti axleback for it being quiet so i can enjoy stealthy driving (my color helps too), but i think i`d like something that would net me more power and just a little more rumble.

i was thinking HKS hi-power? i like the look of the blitz, but i know they arent quiet at al :naughty:. . and i really dont want to annoy other passengers and myself, because i drive from here to savannah very often, so possibly something that wont drone on highway. thanks.

The hi-power is one of the loudest exhaust systems for the WRX.

    UN-true by a long shot.

The Blitz Nur-Spec R is the fucking loudest by a long shot.

I had both on my WRX and the HKS Hi-Po was WAY QUIET compared to the Blitz NSR. The Blitz droned like a MOFO and was just plain loud all the time. It also has 2.5" chokedowns at the center pipe flange and in both resonators.

The HKS is 3" all the way.

Now if you take out the center pipe resonator of the HKS its as loud as the Blitz but doesnt drone as bad.

mokinbird87: There is no need for anything bigger than 2.5" catback until you want 400hp or more.

Yep. I am trying to remember the approximate number that Siegel told me, but it was either over 300whp, or 350whp that having the stock diameter exhaust will start to factor in.

However, since Mokinbird has a stock turbo bugeye, he doesnt have to worry about it

I have the HKS HP and it is reasonably loud, not unbearable. It is loud enough to annoy my girl friend, so I love it. It also get's the attention of all those idiots in huge SUV's on their cell phones with entertainment centers blaring and GPS droning know that there is actually someone else on the fucking road other than them and If I can get a drity look I give them a few rev's to acknowledge.

Definitely nice fit and finish, A+ for qaulity.

speaking of fitment, the blitz fits like ASS SHIT and the HKS is fucking PERFECT.

hks it is.. i know that i dont need a large exhaust for the power i`ll be making, but i thought going from a 3" dp to a stock set-up just restricts the flow (not the actual flow of the sti axle-back or the stock mid section, but just the sizing alone going from 3" to something smaller). i think most race cars are set up so that the exhaust radius starts small and then gets wider and i`m sure there is a reason why it is set up the way it is, regardless of the exhaust being 2" or 4" in overall diameter.

are u talking about bumper clearance? i love the hanger placement on the hks because of that, no new hangars needed
