Man this is some sad shit. I watch the TV and wonder how all the people that influenced my life are doing down there. It's truly disheartening to know that it will never be the same palce I grew up in and the worst part is, the people that still live there or rather call it home will be devasted for many years to come in one form or another. You guys can make a difference by donating any dollar amount. If it's just a dollar, it WILL make a difference. Please find it in your hearts and souls to help out our fellow americans in their greatest time of NEED. http://www.redcross.org
yea man its bad! in some areas water is even higher than that last picture..there are all kinds of dead bodies floating around and in the city raw sewage is mixed with that water..if we dont get those people out relatively quick disease could spread rapidly
I still trying to get ahold of some of my friends down there. Havent heard from them yet . I Know two of their houses are gone, they lived near biloxi / gulfport. Only 2 that I know that are safe....
It seems like things are getting more and more horrible by the day. The estimated time until people can return to--what, exactly?--home keeps getting pushed out. I don't see New Orleans getting back to any semblance of a functional city until a year or more from now after what happened... Wife donated a bunch of stuff through a church here; hopefully clothing and bed linens and stuff will help some people out.
If you don't have the means to give money, you can volunteer with hands on atlanta. They are looking for people to volunteer in the local support effort. www.handsonatlanta.org
Yea, people are starting to stream into Atlanta for aid relief and staying at undisclosed shelters. DONATE!
yea..we have had a few organizations call us to see if we will rent a 2 or 3 bedroom for 10-15 poeple to stay in
I want to setup a donation for redcross through us. I'll hopefully be able to get around to it this weekend, just been too busy with everything else going on right now.
GT is housing people in the Alexander Memorial Colessium and need volunteers for getting the evacuees, mostly international tulane students set up. Stop by this weekend if you're in the midtown area.
I volunteer for HOA on a regular basis and it is a great organization. I already donated to ARC, but I will donate a second time on behalf of our club. I was watching the news tonight and they were saying that 80% of the city is under water......Very Sad.... Peace, Mark
I haven't heard from my friend either whose family is in Ocean Springs,MS. Hopefully they are doing OK. I call every day. I just get the same message every time about the hurricane. Peace, Mark
I finally got a hold of my friend in Ocean Springs,MS. They actually boarded up their house and rode the storm out. I am glad they are alive and well. My friend told me that they went to Starkeville,MS on Wednesday and they are safe and secure now. He said the damage was between 30K-40K on his house, but his wife's family's house was totally destroyed in Biloxi. They are probably going to stay their and rent a house. Also, I found out that Keesler AFB,MS was basically destroyed except for flooding in the Medical Center and it was so bad that you had cars that were banging up against the building. The AF students had 2 choices, either to get out of the military or cross-train at Sheppard AFB,TX. The permanent party personnel could basically just go wherever they could find safety. Man, this whole thing has been just horrible.... I am just glad my friend and his family are fine...Hopefully everything will get better for everyone else.... Peace, Mark
