i was speaking to someone on here and i wanted to buy there hks catback with a downpipe..but i dont think it will pass emissions..he was telling me he went to radio shack and installed a resistor in line and jumped the connector..does anyone know more about this or what website i could fin something like this on..?
does he have the hks dowpipe? if so you dont want it unless you have a turbo upgrade with an external wastegate. The HKS dp blocks the internal wastegate on the factory turbo. You want to get a bellmouth downpipe
I'll tell you what I know: 1. If you aren't throwing any CEL's (ie if you have engine management/tuning or a mechanical fix) you should pass an OBD II scan. 2. If they don't see any cats down in the exhaust you won't pass a visual inspection. You may or may not pass visual with a high flow. 3. If you are catless you won't pass a "sniffer" test where they check your actual emissions. If you have one high flow cat you MAY pass a sniffer test, barely.
i run a downpipe (cobb admittedly and with a cat) and passed both sniffer, visual, and since i had no codes the actual ODB test. I did not fail with a catless cobb downpipe, which i think would be the same as your HKS, but i did use the resister fix to keep from getting a cel and did not run the car through a sniffer, just an odb plug in test.
right now we were told to do obd test and gas cap test only. no visual inspection.if your readiness monitors are complete and no check engine light than you wil pass(as long as your gas cap is ok).also you get 2 years before you have to get emissions anyway.(07)
