Anyone know of any E85 gas stations in metro atl? I'm looking at trying a 80gas/20e85 mix in the RS. A lot of people have posted good results. Gonna try it out myself
Man I wish, there was a nice thread on Nasioc about some guy with an STI adding a gradual mix of E85 and the ECU loved it. I dont think there are any stations in GA though.
Nope no E85 in GA yet. E85 is good stuff, I'm working on a write up about engine tuning and I suspect that its going to work its way into a spin off on Fuels. 104-105 octane Matt
Yeah there's a lot of guys on the RS forums who have converted their fuel systems to run 100% E85. Those same guys were running a mix of 20-30% with regular gas before. They loved it. THey gained quite a bit of power even in a N/A system. And their sparkplugs were almost brand new after 10k miles.
Soooo just picked up a new high flow cat and 2.5 inch STI exhaust. I've ordered a piggyback ecu. And got 10 gallons of E85 on the way. Needless to say I'm going to be having a lot of fun in the next few days.
Dunno. A guy I know through the RS forums did a group buy kinda thing. And thats where he did it through.
http://www.e85fuel.com/database/search.php Says there's 2 stations in GA, one is some private station and the other is on or near Fort Benning.
isnt some minor conversions of the fuel system necessary for running ethanol long term? or is our ECU so powerful it just adapts? ....like the borg...
this is definitely an interesting topic... when my wife finishes her mba she'll prob get a wrx, leaving the turbo beetle up for experimentation. i can't wait to see what i can do with it
From my little bit of research into it last year the ethanol in the fuel works just like using alcohol injection in terms of knock prevention. The added alcohol is also harder on rubber fittings and lines and most people start with a relatively low mix (E85 is still 15% gasoline) and eventually work up to a certain mix.
There's not really much you need as far as a kit. You start off using a small percentage. Then work your way up higher. Only thing you need to watch out for is the metal that your gas tank and lines and etc are made of. Make sure they're not very reactive. Also you need some sort of fuel management/piggyback/EMS if you're running a high mix all the time. you also need bigger injectors. It's higher octane with more gasmileage and cheaper than gasoline. not a bad choice I'd say.
the wiki on ethanol says most cars of the last 20 years can handle e20, or a 20% mix, but may run lean. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E85
We are going to run my brother Turbo Mustang Coupe on it. Ill be taking some barrels down to fill them up in the next few weeks, if anyone wants any let me know. Matt
To compensate you need bigger injectors and some sort of piggyback. And a lot of people recommend a high quality synthetic motor oil like Mobil1
Does ethanol help the car in anyway...? I just noticed Shell's gas statations saying "This product may contain up to 10% ethanol"
