I have a 93 impreza that i am going to turbo and i have a 99 2.2l engine in there. I was wondering alot about megasquirt does anyone know anything about it, anything i repeat anything any one can tell me will be helpful. I really want a to megasquirt but any standalone will work as long as the price is right. Thanks everyone!
You are wasting your time with the MS on the EJ engine. The stock ECU is best. Best bet is a WRX or STi swap, a complete one.
now now, not a total waste of time. Just a waste of time for 95% out there without the patience, EE/CE skills, or custom tuning know-how. ;p Out of curiosity, how hard is it to 'borrow' and make work an ecu from another subie if you don't have the one from the original engine?
What he is asking is how hard it is to make...say a WRX ECU work in a Legacy or say a Legacy ECU work in a GC or something of that sort. My guess is that there would be a LOT of wiring involved in the project if the plugs were not similar and the pinouts were not close.
if the pinouts are the same...say 1996 Legacy outback vs 1998 2.5 RS...the wiring harness plugs in, and the engines run and such...but there's a CEL for misc small differences.
I would love to do a complete WRX or STI swap, but i don't have alot of money to work with and I'm working with what I have. So your saying that the stock ecu will run the larger injectors and... I really need to mess with timing, my red line, fuel, and other engine dynamics. I was told that WRX ATL was much better than NASIOC in the flaming depo. so far not much better, but maybe there is a few bad apples in the bunch.
Not sure I have seen any flames yet...just a couple people not understanding some of the questions in the thread. I have to say that if you could get your hands on a WRX ECU then there would be tons of tuning options out there...some of them free like Enginuity. I personally use Street Tuner Advanced and love it, but there are other options too. Enginuity all you need is the cable and a laptop.
i'm thinking he's never actually really been flamed to know what it means by comparison. ;p basically, i think they're all saying find the appropriate stock ECU for whatever engine you're going to stick in it, because the stock ECU is cheaper, and powerful enough for lots of tuning, and less complicated in man hours to tune it compared to MS or another standalone.
Maybe I should have told you what kind of engine I am putting in, it might help you understand why I might need a standalone. The stock engine was a 1.8l, I removed that engine and put in a 2.2l block with DOHC 2.5 rs heads bolted on, with going with DOHC I had to change out the intake manifold from the different heads. I have changed out the wiring form the 1.8l intake manifold to a 2.5l manifold. So I am running the stock ecu with a completely different engine I also have a turbo that I am going to bolt on so that is going to obviously going to need so sort of tuning. That is reason I wondering about MS because I don't know of any stand alone that will plug directly to the 1.8l harness. I know I over reacted to the "flaming accuse" sorry everyone that tried to help me. Thanks.
you have a frankenstein, but neverthe less interesting combo. Any Ecu you use will be challenging So I would take the route of least headache and see where is your closest tuner and have a chat with him/her first
I still say start out with a WRX ECU if you are going turbo...the number of tuning options out there for the WRX ECU are much better than any other and it is a turbo ECU so it should understand what you are doing better than a NA ECU.
