EJ 205 rebuild Kit?????

I noticed a few reasonably priced engine rebuild kits with forged internals for the ej205. I am not in the market for a hybred, or an ej207 simply due to the limited funding I have available for car stuff, especially since a tranny will come prior to an engine. I thought it might be fun over time to bullet proof a used ej205short block, since they are readily available/affordable/sometimes even free. I will do this as a project and eventually swap this is in to and replace the existing bottom. My goal is a 350-400 whp high reving ej205/quick spooling turbo/ mated with a non dccd 6sp.

you can find used V7 shortblocks occasionally for about as much as you would spend on forged internals for the 205. food for thought

    You can't spin a 205 any higher than a 257...

One of the main advantages of the 257 is the "semi-closed" deck block. It's true that the pistons are the first weak point of the 205, so putting in forged pistons helps that, but the open-deck block is probably not far behind.

Any turbo that makes 400whp is not going to be quick-spooling on a 2.0 liter.

I hate to be down on your ideas, but there's a reason the ej205's are so cheap...

Absolutely great advice, no such thing as being down on the idea, basically helping and novice not to fail! I am really curious about the V7 shortblock as well. Is this the ej207 version 7 with AVCS? Can stock ej205 heads with the V7 shortblock?

yes, but you will only get the AVCS with the associated heads. said heads will run you $2,000.

you should be fine with 205 heads with a 207 shortblock, but I haven't looked at the combustion chamber and deck heights in a LONG time, and the quench area might be an issue. they will physically bolt up fine, however. perusing nasioc may yield an answer, or just call up a reputable engine builder and they should know off the top of their head

You should find a blown EJ257/EJ255 and work with that.

I have one. $300 takes it.

You will spend more money building a EJ205 than you would making a strong EJ257.

Displacement is the replacement for power ;)
