    and NOT the nocturnal type!
my car did not pass the OBD readiness test. What does this mean?
my main problem is that my fan still does not work and it trips a cell; so I reset the ECU. Is the problem that I did not give the ecu enough time to relearn? I have a feeling I'm going to have to fix the fans first, because once it reads everything it throws the cell... am I right?
    any suggestions are welcome.

yeah, one cooling fan does not work while driving or afterwards. motor may be burned up or something. one works when tha a/c is on but that's it. Relays are ok.
I just read on nasioc the same crap....if they do obd test you can't reset your ecu just before you go in to have it done because it will fail obd readiness. Oh well, looks like I'll be working on the fans this week. :(

you have to go through certain drive cycles before the ECU is 'ready'... not sure what those drive cycles are though

Milo's right... I'm not sure exactly what you need to get the readiness codes to pass. I know on every OBDII car I have ever worked on it's nothing more than driving the car nice and easy, cruising at like 60 for a little while then slowly coming to a stop. I had to drive one for 50 miles once before they all passed.
Maybe you can ask Bob at SOG, he may know a shortcut or be able to tell you exactly how you need to drive it. You might want to test the fan motor of the fan that's not running, could be a simple fix.

yeah the lady at the emissions place told me to drive it for about 60mi and come back, but the check engine light is already back on; so not an issue anymore I guess. once I repair the fans I'll have enough mileage on it to get the ecu ready. thanks

If your CEL is on you will have to clear the codes and start all over again. :)
Clearing your stored code will reset your readiness codes as well.

    readiness monitors

The readiness monitors are the emissions systems such as evap, catalyst, 02, 02 heaters,EGR (NOT APP. TO wrx),and a few others i can't think of right now.All do not apply to all cars. I can tell tou that the cooling fan is an ECU output device, it is not ,however ,monitored for proper operation by the ecu.But if the fan is greatly affecting the cars ability to keep it at the proper temp, it may not be running the monitors b/c they only run at certain temps and times durring a given drive cycle. Also, don't fill your gas tank or let it go below 1/4 tank while trying to get in readiness(for the evap)Some cars have taken as much as 300 miles toget into readiness(ussually Fords). So anyway, do you know which monitor(s) are not ready? I do emissions repairs practically daily.

well, I had just reset the ecu about 5 min before; so I'm guessing all of them..lol
it throws a cell for P0480
Cooling Fan Relay 1 Circuit Low Input
not sure what this means, my sub fan won't come on but my relays are all fine. :dunno

I see you're in Marietta. I'm at the corner of Sandy Plains and Shallowford at Tires Plus if you want to stop by and let me check it out. I'll be there from 8 or 9 in the morning 'til at least 7. Look for the white '02.

I just talked to Mckenzie and he said the ecu DOES monitor the primary fan relay coil

this happened when it was being retuned at Topspeed, do you think it could have been anything to do with that? they said it didn't but whatever
