A friend of mine works as a gas delivery truck driver and he mentions to me there are a lot of complaints about gasoline that has ethanol - gas milleage and less power. He also mentioned that there are a few gas brands is worst and some is still ethanol free. Who didnt mention names but i will try to squeeze it out from them. I only pump Shell 93oct and he did say "You may want to change". Any info for ATL / GA gas quality
The only thing I can tell you is that if a company has ethanol in their gas they put a little sticker somewhere on the pump saying "this gas contains up to 10% Ethanol" or something along those lines. I will keep an eye out for where I see this and where I don't.
Lets make this a sticky! This is importants and we all need to pay attention and be on the lookout for and ethanol stickers or signs.. then we can update the this thread and keep everyone in the know... I never use Shell, looks like I made a good choice.
I usually stick with BP 93oct. Sunoco when I'm near a station. There's one on 138 between stockbridge and conyers. I always get gas there if I'm in the area. Their gas is FTW. I also once heard a reputable tuner say he guarantees his tunes on anything that's not QT gas. Was that you, Scott? I don't remember. Anyway I don't get gas from there anymore.
I got it from Shell tonight, and sure enough, there was the little sticker talking about it having up to 10% ethanol. And I could give a shite less
ok i got 1/2 tank this AM (gauge was E so 95% is new Gas) Will update when i get more concrete info (dont have the wings like some that fly by just flapping). I logged this AM and will do so a few more times and compare.
My personal experience has led me to never get Shell gas anymore. It used to rock, but starting this summer it just got terrible. I would get a tank of gas, and the IAM would drop like a rock. I got a tank of QT the other day, and the car felt great. Now I am back on a tank of BP and the car feels ok, but the QT really made the car feel good...
I thought all of the gas at area stations come from the same place (big tanks). The only difference is the additives. Is this incorrect?
actually, he DID... but he said things have changed. Unless things have changed back, in November I was talking with him about it and he informed me that Shell and Chevron were the way to go. I think the answer may be similar to voting for president. Pick whoever is going to screw up your life the least and cost you less. And I hope we all know to never buy anything from Citgo...
According to delivery guy "Yes and No" There are 3 main tanks and almost everyone use the 1 main tank except a few companies that does not and there is one tank that is normally for special orders. Addictives he says he does not know because all he gets is the workorder go to the tank and fill up his rig and goes deliver it. I assume the addictives is up to the station. I tried one of the few stations that dont use the main tank today
I usually get QT, Exxon, or Shell, been pretty happy with them so far. Normally QT for the price. I dislike BP, usually the price sucks and the car doesn't seem as happy to me with it in there. Tis a shame most Chevron stations screw up the pricing so instead of 20 cents above 89 octane its 30-40.
+1 and i always keep my AP D/A up and watch it daily. EVERYTIME i get gas from citgo, i get negative numbers. local shell stations are the only ones i've used that i've never seen negative D/A. i wonder though... how much the quality of the holding tanks (i.e. new stations) themselves have to do with gas quality. i'm interested in seeing your findings based on logging.
i noticed this at shell today when i filled up, but i think i read that 10% ethanol is only in regular gas, not premium?
update, just filled up at shell (satt blvd & steve reynolds)... seeing -.5 to -2.0 DA on low rpm medium eng load blah.
That has to do with timing - right? How much would you see with really good or bad gas? Any idea how much effect it has on HP? Does APV1 display this?
if anyone can confirm that certain brands does not contain ethanol, please shed some light. Or whichever brand has the least mount of ethanol should work too.
What I really dislike is that the government is foolishly pushing ethanol when they should be putting a MUCH bigger focus on non-corrosive Butanol. Scientists are hopeful that advances in the manufacturing process of butanol will soon become such as to get the kind of energy per gallon that ethanol produces while at the same time working in existing fuel systems without damaging the fuel systems components. Butanol may even have a comparable flash point to gasoline which could hopefully make it just as safe in our turbo engines.
I filled up at Exxon last night and I did not see an ethanol sticker anywhere. I haven't hooked up my AP to check the DA yet though. Can anyone else confirm Exxon has no ethanol?
I filled up at Kroger today and there was no 10% sticker either. My car has between 9-10 of DA under full load and full throttle so my car must like the gas there even though people talk crap about it.
